William I Cromwell aged 68 died Saturday night at his daughter Mrs Charles Sheridan’s home in Woolwich after a long illness. Born in Georgetown in December 1850 he lived there most of his life and farmed before moving to Woolwich with his wife Elizabeth Hanna last December. He was a member of the Free Baptist church Five Islands grange and Lincoln lodge Odd Fellows Bath. He leaves wife Elizabeth Hanna daughter Mrs Sheridan a son Gilbert Cromwell of Denver Wyoming three grandchildren and three brothers Sylvanus Ichabod and Edward Cromwell of New Bedford Mass.

Hodgkins Receives Deserved Promotion at New England Tel
Elwood B. Hodgkins, three years as time keeper and lineman in the Plant Department of the New England Telegraph and Telephone Co. in this city, is transferred to Lewiston as Supervisor of Supplies for the Lewiston district. He succeeds Fred Pendleton who resigns after 17 years. Hodgkins began in Bath in 1905 and helped grow the Bath exchange from under 500 to 2000 subscribers. He has filled roles from night operator to contract agent for the Lewiston district and worked in cities west of Waterville. Bath friends congratulate him on the advancement.

Throwing Refuse Proves Expensive in Washington Street Incident
Peter Afanaris was arrested and convicted in police court for assault and battery after throwing a bucket of dish water and refuse from a restaurant side door on Washington and Center streets. Judge Keegan fined him 25 dollars plus 10.31 in costs or 60 days in jail. Witnesses included Dorothy Ham, five, and Edith Reno, eighteen, who were struck by the slime as they walked from kindergarten.

Hand tub trials draw crowd to the contest on Waterstreet
Five hundred spectators watched Friday night as two handtubs, the Senator Baxter owned by the Bath Veteran Firemen's association and the Kennebec Handtub, competed. The Baxter measured 192 feet 6 inches versus 173 feet 9 inches for the Kennebec. Both crews, 40 strong, energized the pumps with skill, the Baxter’s air chambers from Bath Iron Works performing well. Injuries occurred to several participants, and a historic driver’s seat from the first fire wagon was presented to the veterans for the Senator Baxter tub.

Watch Thief Black Sentenced in Portland Court
William Black, tied to two Portland drinking sprees with Fred J. Barter, was jailed 60 days after Barter woke to find his watch missing.
