President Sills Attacks Hitlerism in Maine Talk
Bowdoin College President Kenneth C. M. Sills urged that a peace shaped by Germany would lack U S influence if Hitler wins the war. He labeled dictatorship cruel, warned of economic and strategic peril, and called for moral preparedness and civic hardening. He also cited Sumner to argue nations share burdens and urged continued war effort. Mr. and Mrs. Sumner Sewall hosted a tea in Portland with local notables present.
