Three Bath residents given heavy sentences for arson
In Cumberland Superior Court in Portland on a Monday three Bath residents admitted arson in a March 14 fire that destroyed a Pownal barn owned by Mrs. Ella Emmons. Brown received four to eight years in Thomaston State Prison, Beaulieu an indefinite term in South Windham Men's Reformatory, and Emmons three to five years in Skowhegan Woman's Reformatory. Brown admitted starting the blaze for a $100 payoff, with Beaulieu driving them to Pownal. the barn and house were insured for about $750 each. Emmons had moved to Bath after her husband’s death and had rented the Pownal farm to Daniel Edwards Brown. both Beaulieu and Brown had long Bath Iron Works ties.

Goldfish Survive Winter In Dana Pond Grow Large
Four of five goldfish placed in a Woolwich pond by Mr. and Mrs. Eben Dana survived since 1937. Observed last winter under the ice two fish and this Sunday four fish estimated three inches thick were seen near the pond top. The Grant Co. in Bath maintains a natural pond using a century old well as a drainage point for the basement, where goldfish have grown to smelt size and bred for years.
