Bowker Withdraws Candidacy for District Governor

Barracks Construction Starts at Crockerfield for Defense Workers
Ground was broken Monday for two dormitories in Crockerfield to house about 130 defense workers. Built by D W Cunningham Co of Bangor, the project aligns with Bath Iron Works expansion. Completion is planned within 60 days under the direction of the Federal Farm Securities Administration.

Sunday Launching Sets New Record for Iron Works
Bath Iron Works Corp. celebrated the first Sunday launch in the firm’s history as the destroyer Strong slid into the Kennebec amid wartime pace. Mrs. Hobart Olson christened the ship, praised as a real Navy job by Commander J. M. Kiernan, with several hundred spectators watching near Carlton Bridge and Vine Street. The event followed rapid wartime expansion at the north yard.
