In Lake Michigan shipyard near Chicago the Pullman Standard Car plant will build 50 all steel diesel powered anti submarine patrol craft for the Navy at a rate of one a week. Most workers are car plant veterans but thousands will be drawn locally to learn shipbuilding. The plan follows a push to expand public playgrounds in Bath with fundraising and improved facilities while rationing shifts to gasoline and sugar stir daily life.

A fire started in an automobile next to the unoccupied George Shaw homestead on Route One near Woolwich and Wis casset, destroying the house. Fire Chief Richard Frates estimated the damage at 4000 dollars as Bath and Wis casset firefighters, aided by a brook and a well, prevented the nearby barn from catching. The livestock was released but the barn itself suffered no damage.
