A pine nursery will be started by J. J. Haile of West Bath to supply seedlings to farm bureau co operators. An extension demonstration later this month will teach pine growing in a nursery and the county agent will plant Haile’s nursery. The service cites rising pine values and notes a New Hampshire grower earned about 32300 per acre from pine settings. Land use may qualify for tax relief if 50 percent of trees remain alive after three years. Twin county settings averaged around three percent gain with one poor plot losing 10 to 16 percent.

Root grafts to cut nursery stock costs in Maine
The farm bureau secured root grafts from mid western nurseries to test in Maine. Last year 10 000 were ordered, and over three years 24 2-10 per cent of trees grafted become No 1 trees, cutting nursery stock prices in half. L D Rogers of West Bath set 250 grafts beside his road. At two years they resemble two year trees and if 1 4 of them reach No 1, it would be a strong showing.
