Comm. Kiernan presented the swallow tailed burgee to Bath Iron Works employees as 4000 workers gathered. John R. Newell and President William S. Newell pledged the yard will meet the Navy’s challenge. A new Personal Service and Morale department was introduced, and the Bath Iron Works band provided music.

Total Blackout Planned for Sagadahoc and Lincoln Counties
First Corps Area Headquarters orders a coordinated blackout next Friday night between eight and ten o clock. Sagadahoc Lincoln counties Brunswick Harpswell Orrs Island Bailey Island and adjacent shore areas will be darked with all lights out traffic stopped and vehicles dimmed. State Police will govern highways while auxiliary police and wardens cover town limits. Citizens should prepare a blackout room and crews will use air raid siren and four blasts for all clear. Exact time to be announced.

Bridge Traffic Counts Hint at No Gas Rationing Yet
A local resident counted cars crossing Carlton Bridge Friday morning, tallying 503 westbound vehicles between 7:10 and 7:50. Of them nine were buses with workers and seven trucks, leaving 487 passenger cars. traffic had earlier been tied up by an accident near the east end.
