Larger ferry needed to handle Sunday traffic in Maine
Despite rising Sunday motoring the state ferry Gov. King was out of commission, leaving travelers delayed as the smaller Heckomock ferried crowds. By 7:15 a.m. motorists waited hours on the Woolwich shore with heavy traffic resuming mid afternoon and continuing into evening. Residents urged the Highway Commission to have a larger boat ready for holiday and weekend crowds. William S.K. Clisby of Wiscasset visited town Monday amid social notices. Mrs Kenneth C. M. Sills hosted a 16 guest supper honoring Mrs and Mrs James Stevens a noted Irish poet who spoke at Memorial Hall. Leitch and Stevens recited poetry to the enjoyment of attendees. Carl Whitney and his mother from Lewiston were Sunday guests of Mr and Mrs Harry A. Beals.
