Four Morse High School students who will represent Bath at the Hi Y Legislature at the State House May 21 and 22 visited Augusta as guests of State Representative Howard Larrabee. They observed procedure in both branches of the 1949 session and were welcomed by the House. Rep Larrabee presented Maine Development Commission publications and legislative samples as help for preparing bills and resolves. Participants were Richard Gross Richard Hersom Walter Fullerton and Tim Sullivan.
The Nequasset Mother's Club of Woolwich met at Mrs. Clyde K. Baker's Nequasset road home for a regular business session. Committees named include graduation with Mrs. William Fogg and Mrs. Forrest Baker and picnic with Mrs. Guy Cromwell, Mrs. Adam Galuza, and Mrs. Eugene Beck. The mystery prize was won by Mrs. John Anderson, with next prize to be provided by Mrs. Reginald Stacey. Members present included Mrs. Lester Holbrook, Mrs. Forest Baker, and visitors Miss Virginia Baker and Mrs. Dorothea Rice.
Inner Wheel met May 5 with Mrs. Frederick D Hill at High street for dessert and a business meeting. Captains Mrs. William J Craft and Mrs. Ralph Mittendorf reported a combined $250 earnings over three months directed to community projects and Morse High graduates. Next meeting May 19 will elect officers, while the June 2 annual meeting will be held at Mrs. G Thomas Murphy's Summer home in Sebasco.
The Helping Hand club met on Thursday evening at Mrs Leo Rossignol’s Shepard street home for a regular business session. A swap party raised funds for the flower fund and plans were made for the annual banquet later in the month. The next meeting is May 19 at Mrs Charles Swearingen’s Wesley street home with members present including Mrs Oliver Foster Mrs Emile Cyr Mrs William Cormier Mrs Sylvia Langlois Mrs Leland Green Mrs Charles Swearingen and Mrs Raymond Hutchins.
In Woolwich Municipal Court Thomas Fullerton paid five dollars and four dollars seventy cents in costs for operating a motorcycle without a Spring Inspection sticker. Lawrence Litchfield of Portland and Clifford Dolloff of Brunswick faced similar charges for operating automobiles without stickers. State Trooper Mortimer O Connell led the cases.
Mrs. Doris Wing conductress with Mrs. Adel Matron and Mrs. Alice Picard associate matron of Hawthorne Chapter O. E. S. of Brunswick attended Hermon Chapter Gardiner Guest Officers Night banquet Monday evening. Mrs. Doris Wallace former Doris Coney of Bath is matron of Hermon Chapter.
Piano pupils under Frances D Young performed a Friday recital at Central church parish house to a large audience of parents and friends. The program showcased youngest players then advanced high school youth with pieces by Chopin Brahms Mozart Poldini and others, followed by an intermission during which Mrs Young received a basket of flowers from her pupils.
Morse High school band under Principal Keith L. Crockett will travel to Lewiston Sunday afternoon to hear the U S Navy Band in the armory. A chartered bus leaves Morse High at 1 30 PM Saturday. Members Alter Fullerton Robert Rowland Melvin Tukey Donald Coombs James Footer will perform in Auburn at the Western Maine School Music Festival with piano accompaniment by Mrs Ira Nadine.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Brown and daughters Pamela and Car ole visited Farmington Sunday to see Mrs. Brown's daughter Patricia Cowan a student at the State Teachers College Dum mer Street and niece Betty McPhee daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Howard McPhee
The Beacon Lights staged the farce Honeymoon Is Over by James F. Stone to a capacity Beacon Street vestry audience. James Steen Violet Dearing led as the Smithie couple with Edward Larrabee Doris Steen as newlyweds. Rev Alfred Ives appeared as Bill the Beak with Izetta Larrabee as Gertie.
Mother's Day services at Winter Street Church featured memorial flowers arranged by Miss Grace Dickinson. Red and white carnations honored living and departed mothers, a Martha Washington plant honored Mrs. Raymond Powers, and special music accompanied the sermon "A Good Heritage." Evening Fireside club members traveled to Quisset for a youth meeting with talks by Rev. John Anderson and Miss Beverly Packard.
Jesse Homan of Bath paid 5.60 in fines and 4.70 in costs at Bath municipal court for operating a vehicle without a spring inspection sticker, arraigned before Court Recorder John W. Quarrington. officer Charlies Rhein presented the complaint. Robert L. Dawes paid a similar fine on the same charge per State Trooper Mortimer O Connell. Frank Cressey had a charge of operating and collecting refuse without a license placed on file by Recorder Quarrington.
Acadia lodge K P gathered Thursday evening with 18 members present. Two new applications were read. The Ways and Means chair reported a full committee meeting set for Tuesday at 7 p.m. Col Harold S Elder of U R K P from Portland Major Frederick P Wilson and Lt Julies A Hertz attended to discuss reorganizing the fifth company of U R. Lunch followed served by Arthur Panguin and Edwin Winslow.
Augusta State Hospital marks its annual Hospital Day on May 14 with open house from 9 30 to 11 30 a m and 1 30 to 4 30 p m. The event will showcase bibliotherapy occupational therapy and hospital activities in the chapel with demonstrations and photographs. Tea will be served 2 30 to 4 30 p m. Visitors over 18 may tour all wards except two restricted ones. guides will answer questions and press representatives may access all areas.
The Bath Chamber of Commerce reports strong demand for its forthcoming booklet with inquiries from over six states. Work progresses with local scenes photographed and text in development. Contributions come from Mark W. Hennessy, Henry W. Owen, W. S. Newell, William Turpie, and others on maritime history, industry, recreation, and living in Bath.
Morse High G A plans a May 28 food sale at Rogers Hardware from 9 am to 3 pm. About 200 girls participate this year and awards will honor intramural participants. Dues fund part of the effort, with members contributing baked goods or candy for the sale.
Bath quota set at 50000 dollars as Rotarians gather for a bond drive meeting. Attendees include Stanwood Bailey Portland Arthur Talbot Westbrook Ted Tyler and Cy Legendre Lewiston guest Warren Chambles Portland. President Loring Addison presided.

The Corliss Street Baptist church held its annual meeting with a pre meeting supper for about 45 attendees. Reports were read from parish and special parish meetings, finance, music, floral and decorating committees, Sunday school officers, and various societies. New officers for 1949-50 were elected including clerk Jessie Norton and treasurers Agatha Lennox and Lillian Plant. Gifts were presented to longtime church clerk Abby McCabe and retiring treasurer Eula Fielding. The session concluded the year was notably successful.
Miss Barbara Madden daughter of Mr and Mrs Charles I Madden has returned to Becker Junior College Worcester Massachusetts after coming home to attend the wedding of Virginia Rand to Lowell Lingle on Saturday.
Mack Zimmerman arrives in Etowah Tennessee with his wife and young son after a long service career. He is known for duty aboard the destroyer USS O'Bannon during World War I and later as a navy recruiting officer in Bath. He traveled home by plane from Nice via Westover Field after service in France, Madrid, French Morocco and the Azores.
The week following will have War Bond awards held in conjunction with the Sea Scout ship Barracuda. Awards were given to Dr. William Watson, Chester Talbot, Mr Fortier, Augusta, and Don Scully of Bath Iron Works Corp. Guests at the meeting were Charles Doyle Sr Elford A. Stover State Liquor Commissioner Warren Munsey Sr and William MacNamara.
Dike school will present two one act plays at Lambert Park community hall Friday evening May 13 at eight. The sixth grade performs Danger At the Door and the seventh grade acts Getting Grade Graduated to raise money for rental films for the new movie projector next year. Tickets are on sale from class members.
Maine health bureau notes 18 measles cases in Bath and 13 mumps cases in Sagadahoc county for the week ending April 30. No other communicable diseases were reported in the county. Mr and Mrs Charles Miller and children Jean and Ann visited Boston over the weekend.
