State of Maine Society revived in Washington
Washington May 8 The State of Maine Society in the District of Columbia has been revived this spring with a reception and dance at Wardman Park Hotel attended by Mrs. Wallace H White Jr and Maine lawmakers. A dinner was held for officers and the Maine delegation. The revival aims to promote Maine as a visitor destination and rally Maine residents in the Capital. Democratic women gathered in Washington for campaign planning with large crowds and a breakfast hosted by Commissioner Moran of Rockland and the Maritime Commission. The Maine group was led by Mrs. Lottie Ware Meader of Waterville. Republicans noted the coaching presence of a former Roosevelt voice coach as a political contrast. The Wage Hour Act provisions affecting Maine industries were fought over in the House with Brewster and Oliver defending Maine interests amid shifting coalitions. Col. Philip B Fleming of the Wage Hour Administration has pushed relief for Maine, with emphasis on pulp, canning, and wood industries.
