Mother and Daughter Banquet Proves Most Enjoyable Affair
The fourth annual Banquet by the Winter Street church ladies' aid drew 150 guests in Bath. Speeches by Mrs. Andrew Hill, a Pearl Harbor evacuee, highlighted the event with her talk on The Home, a Bulwark in a World at War. Janet Hill, the speaker's daughter, plus numerous hostesses and musical participants, contributed to a well orchestrated evening of community singing and ceremony. The banquet featured a formal head table, floral decor by Mrs. Roscoe P. McFadden, and a menu including soup, chicken salad, hot biscuits, ice cream, and coffee.

The U S S O Bannon, Bath Iron Works second destroyer this year, slid into Kennebec waters amid wartime restraint. Sponsor Mrs Kennedy, descendant of Lt Presley O Bannon, christened the vessel after a short ceremony as cutters and spectators looked on. Earlier, a motor minesweeper and a patrol craft were launched from Rice Bros in East Boothbay.

Harkins president William Allard vice president George Allan financial secretary Leon Eaton treasurer and Frank Curran recording secretary at the hall on Washington street Tuesday of last week. An East Coast Alliance report was read noting President Harkins and Leon Fortin attended the New York meeting. Fred Smyth Bates College graduate 1936 and Kodak researcher will speak at Bates Chapel Wednesday at 8 pm on colored photography with slides and kodachrome movies.
