A. Bulov, F. Fleming, Dorothy Fleming, and John Fleming were among helpers serving coffee to firemen as the liner Sorawnee burned at a Was pier. Fleming, near the end of the voyage, was one of the last to leave before the ship capsized while studying at the Salvation Army Training College in New York and expected early commission as a lieutenant.

Central Grammar sixth graders collected and delivered magazines and food to the Armory Friday after school. The drive, led by chairmen Douglas Skillin and Martin Doyle, is part of a continuing campaign organized by Miss Ivanetta Newton and Mrs. Granville M. A noon meal featured vegetable soup cole slaw nutrition pudding and coffee. April’s session will be at the Good Will club house with guest county demonstrator Lucinda Rich on nutrition. Prof Athern P Daggett of Bowdoin College spoke to the Winter Street church Men's club on What’s Coming After the War. He urged a unified policy for the United Nations and warned against partial settlements, noting Russia and China will shape the final terms. A chicken pie supper preceded the talk and the club approved a father and son banquet after Easter. Next meeting March 19 features Dr A E Gross showing wildlife films.

The Carriers Auxiliary of the N A L C held a Wednesday meeting at Mrs. James E. McLaughlin’s home on Willow street. President Mrs. Harold E. Hodgkins led the business session followed by social hour and a fundraising auction. The next gathering will be at Mrs. Oscar J. Tanguay’s Wesley street on April 1 with six members present.
