Commander Lord Elevated to Full Commander Title
John A. Lord, former Bath mayor and noted shipbuilder, has been promoted to full Commander in the U S Navy. Now stationed in Washington, he serves as chief of wood construction for the Maritime Commission and was recalled July 17 1942. He gained fame for supervising the Constitution reconstruction and holds an honorary Master of Science from Bowdoin College.

Braine Launches From Bath Iron Works Sunday
The USS Braine slid from the ways at Bath Iron Works in Bath Maine on Sunday afternoon becoming the fourth destroyer launched there in 1943. The event drew a large crowd and marked progress toward President Newell’s goal of a destroyer every 15 days as the vessel completed a smooth descent into the Kennebec River. The ship is named for Rear Admiral Daniel Lawrence Braine. the christening was performed by Mrs. Daniel L. Braine of Brooklyn New York.

City Council Concludes 1942 Session After Routine Matters

Pythian Sisters Meet On Wednesday
Lowell Temple Pythian Sisters met Wednesday evening for a meeting followed by supper at six. Rev Rasney gave a talk on Maine minerals, noting Oxford counts in minerals and proving certain minerals have personality. A basket was sent to a shut in, and plans were made for arranging a meeting with the Brother Knights. Donald Roderick, son of Maurice and Mrs Roderick, returned home after visiting grandparents in the city.

A large Lioness club dinner heard Mrs. Whiting discuss the Bath Iron Works Employment Department led by Mr. Washington. He described the 900 plus women at the shipyard performing paint cleaning machinist and electrical roles under sub zero strain, with many traveling long distances to work. The Bath plant employs a vast transportation system to move workers and support ship construction efforts during wartime.

Genesta chapter of O E S met Friday at the Masonic Temple with strong turnout. After the meeting a banquet featured a Hawaiian War Chant solo by Betty Chadbourne and a White Christmas tap dance by Ruth Crocker with piano by Esther Andrews.
