Sagadahoc towns held annual meetings with key officers elected including selectmen Crosby Currier and Sturmer and town officials Snipe Drum mond Rit tall Sturmer joining as officers. Major appropriations listed cover schools roads maintenance and health with total raised about 12250 dollars. Gardiner Rogers secured 1000 for Wynburg Brightwater road improvements while Riverside hotel disposal remained with selectmen. Meeting adjourned 1130 p.m.
Following the town meeting at Bowdoinham select men elected Edward D. Baker chairman. The town office will be open Fridays 2 to 5 p.m. and closed on Saturdays. Budget shows total raised of 23103 with raises for officials and detailed allocations for roads, schools, and public services.
At a Georgetown meeting, attended mostly by women, officers were chosen for the coming year. Moderator Mrs. Ethel Marr, Town Clerk William A. Todd, Selectmen and Assessors Richard Potter Forest Hanna Lloyd Pinkham, Treasurer Howard G. Heald, Collector William A. Todd, Overseer of Poor Richard Potter Lloyd Pinkham, Road Commissioner Hunt Harold.
Practically the entire 1942 slate of town officers was reelected at the Phippsburg town meeting. New names include Elijah P. Bartlett as selectman Howard Bowker road commissioner Mrs Etta Forbes and Philip J S as school committee members. On Monday Richmond held its annual town meeting's first day with officers elected. At 7 30 p m Tuesday voters will consider funding to support town business. Key officials include First Selectman Charles Blake Second Selectman Wallace Gardner Third Selectman John Quarington Treasurer Albertha Haynes Tax Collector Alberta Haynes Fire Wardens Randlette Hinkley Douglas Road Commissioner Charles Dore and School Board members Nellie Thomas Albert Wing John Quarington.
In afternoon voting 27 residents finished town business in under an hour while morning balloting tallied 57 votes for town officers. With 400 to 500 registered voters many work out of town Walter M Williams was chosen first selectman for the 21st consecutive year.
The town meeting elected officers for the year in West Bath on Monday. Selectmen named were Earle C. Donnell W Elwin Greig and Frank A French. Clerk chosen was Harry J Rich. Collector and Treasurer appointed was Edward K Thompson.
William S. Newell of Bath Iron Works was elected a Mack Trucks director at a New York meeting. He is the second New England member on the board, joining Walter E. Reid of Georgetown, Maine. Mack Trucks, a major war producer, operates three plants and holds the Army Navy E award for wartime output.
March brings a national rationing launch as canned fruits and vegetables become purchasable again under the point system. Clerks, cashiers, and delivery men across Bath begin processing blue coupons and tagging shelves with point values while stores organize inventory and manage crowded busy days.
In a lackluster city election Walter C. Rogers Republican ward two was reelected mayor for a third term as Republicans swept wards unopposed. Voter turnout was light with 658 casting ballots. ward three drew 143 and ward five 114. Referendum issues drew more attention, peaking at 640 votes on one ballot, while school board totals were 573.
A Bath tally shows 12 234 War Ration Books No 2 issued across Monday Tuesday and Wednesday at Morse High School gym by volunteer workers. The effort drew praise for efficiency and cooperation with teachers and about 30 volunteers reflecting strong community morale amid rationing rules and coffee stamp adjustments.
The 1943 Red Cross War Fund drive begins with volunteers visiting homes and businesses nationwide. A goal of 12 million dollars is set to support fighting men and home-front needs, with calls for increased or first-time donations. Bath leaders outline local committees and district chairs for city, suburban, and rural areas.
Staff Sergeant Paul E. Davis, 24, formerly of Bath, left Oct 7 for Fort Devens to join the U S Army. He is reported missing somewhere in the Western Hemisphere according to War Department notices received by friends in this city. Davis, born in Portland, had been employed at Rogers Hardware and Bath Iron Works before enlisting. He is survived by his wife Arlene H Prenes.
Rationing of shoes has boosted repair business to near peak levels. A local cobbler reports daily output around 50 repaired pairs, a surge for the usually quiet season as more customers seek repairs to extend shoe life.
Annual Bath district meeting convened last Tuesday at Edwin R. Andrews home with William Snooks of Portland replacing Dane Wescott. Andrews reelected chairman Purdue named first vice chairman Stetson reelected treasurer Lermond reelected secretary.
