Mayor Small Re-elected by Largest City Plurality Ever

Mayor Harold P. Small won re election Monday by 1,024 over Democrat John P. Carey Jr and by 803 over Carey and Oliver Moses, sweeping all wards and bringing in a full Republican slate. Carey conceded and praised Small as the city votes reached 2,859 with 75 percent turnout.

Town Meetings in Sagadahoc County Towns

Sagadahoc county towns held their annual meetings Monday to select officers and approve appropriations. George L. Tarr chaired Arrowsic meetings again and was re elected chairman of the board of selectmen with Wilder F. Hagan and John H. Currier. Frank H. Snipe was re elected town clerk and Collingwood P. Shea named treasurer collector. Norman H. Drummond became auditor and school board member. Shea also became constable.

The South End PTA met Tuesday afternoon in Washington street rooms. Members sewed patchwork and tacked a quilt while guests, teachers from Weeks street school, attended. A light luncheon with tea crackers ice-box cookies and candy followed. Sixteen members were present. hostesses were Mrs. Vera Brown and Mrs. Edna Perry.

Former Governor Baxter Donates Mount Katahdin for Maine Park

Percival P. Baxter donated Mt Katahdin area of about 14 square miles in Piscataquis County to become a public park and recreation area. The state accepted via bill signed by Governor Gardiner with Baxter present, for one dollar consideration and future plans to include remaining township portions.
