A national timber shortage is warned as growth lags demand. Frederick Boyd Steven son notes 25 billion cubic feet used yearly against 6 billion grown, with 157 million acres forest land misdistributed and vast fallow areas. Calls for a nationwide, cooperative forestry program and new forest creation.
In 1820 Maine celebrated statehood with a federal centennial half dollar. Now Vermont may seek a commemorative coin for the Battle of Bennington, mirroring that precedent and honoring a historic event.
The Sabine Improvement Association staged a Wednesday night revue at Armory Hall in Bath drawing about 250 people. Performers included Herbert L. Douglas, John F. Stacy, George McLean, Charlie Betts, Mrs. Florence Coss, Harold McLean, Reginald Stacy, John Grindell, Bunny Stanwood, and the Colonial Club Orchestra. The show featured singing, dancing, violin and saxophone solos, and a strong piano segment ending with a dance set. funds were raised to support a Boston trip.
A 1924 article outlines best practices for lime soil, plow down to improve acidity, grow alfalfa or clover for forage, and build silage to boost livestock. It argues for legume crops, well managed cows, and breeding to raise herd productivity while reducing overhead.
All participants contributed their services without pay to the association, whose members express deep gratitude for the volunteer efforts and unpaid work benefiting the organization.
Thirty five names were added to the municipal election voting list during a board of registration open session. Dr Paul A Fitzgerald of Bath and Miss Anna Mae Finnegan of Dover married February 20 at Holy Cross Church Dover. They briefed at groom's home and will tour Maine then reside at Green Colonial near Century Club. Fitzgerald built a Kent County medical practice after arriving in Dover a year ago.
Morse trailed Cony throughout and lost 22 to 18 as Cony led 6 2 after first period and 12 6 at halftime. Morse showed fight with Wilson and Doyle scoring, while Gannon Lyden and Reed led Morse efforts before Cony pulled away late.
Warren F E Williams received a full military funeral in Brunswick with marching unit led by Commander Gardiner Rogers and chaplain James Morse. Bearers included Perry Thompson Hersham Oliver and others from Smith post while burial took place at Varney Cemetery.
Cedar waxwings, first seen a month ago as snow lay on the ground, remain in town with several flocks reported in different districts. The birds, considered highbrows of the avian world, are admired by bird lovers though less popular than robins.
The Women's Benefit Association of the Muccabees held a box supper and social at GLARhall on Wednesday of last week. Twenty boxes of varied sizes raised funds at auction, with W. Sh. A. Garcelon in charge of the auction. George Costain has returned to Boston after visiting his parents at 788 Middle Street and has been transferred to first assistant in a Woolworth store.

Danish explorer Peter Freuchen, missing for three years since leaving Copenhagen in 1920, was saved near Cape Barewell Greenland after frostbite and scarce food. Sokongen crew landed supplies, freighting stores for Greenland stations, while Freuchen and four Eskimo helpers endured harsh ice and weather.

A Rockland resident nicknamed Tony the Greek drinks 18 to 20 cups of coffee daily for at least 10 years, claims perfect health, and can wrestle and row without physician care.
Miss Ydna Hallowell entertained PAL members at her Weeks Street home on Wednesday night. Games and ukes were played. Refreshments of strawberry Jello with whipped cream, cookies and candy were served. Attendees included Mrs. Ruby Troble, Carolyn Phlont, Margret Chaney, Phyllis Wright.
