Memorial Day Observed In Bowdoinham With Ceremonies
In Bowdoinham the Dummer Sewall chapter of the D A R hosted a large local gathering at Mrs. Kendall's home with a Bowdoin Lilly solo and Ida Fowle as pianist. Memorial Day activities included flag placements, a parade led by former Bowdoinham band members, and services at Village cemetery followed by a banquet. Commodore Davenport Dies in Washington DC at 77
Commodore Koehard Raha Deen Davenport 77 long time Summer resident of MacMahan Island and Bath visitor died Sunday in Washington DC. Born in Washington he entered the Naval Academy from Georgia in 1864 and became an instructor at Newport. He retired June 30 1907 after 42 years of active service as commodore while commanding the battleship Georgia. He served in the Spanish American War and World War I era on various boards and as aide to admirals. He belonged to several societies and clubs including the Metropolitan Chevy Chase New York Yacht Club.

Emily W. Thomas, 57, famed slack wire artist and longtime Barnum & Bailey performer, died of pneumonia at her Georgetown Center home on Indian Point road. Born in Coblenz Germany, she began performing at nine and later toured worldwide including Cuba and the West Indies. She retired after an accident and moved to Sunset View farm in Maine with husband Fred W. Thomas. Burial is in Georgetown Center Cemetery.

Lawrence Newell G2 laborer living alone on Bull Bridge road West Bath was found dead in his chair by William Sprague late Tuesday. Sprague and Edwin Haggett forced entry after seeing him motionless. Dr Langdon Snipe ruled death from angina pectoris. Newell, a longtime West Bath resident, was said to be a bachelor with little known about him.

Survived by daughter Lucinda Sprague, sisters Georgia Wreblesby Josephine Bradford Mary Record, and grandchildren Ruth and Mary Sprague. Her husband died two years ago in Groton Connecticut.
