No Public Fishing at Campbell's Pond West Bath

Campbell's pond in West Bath has been closed to public fishing by owners Ernest E. Williams Mrs Mil dred Stackpole Tito Pecci and the estate of Alfred Coombs. The under ten acre pond teems with white perch and bass but the move to ban fishing is to reduce fire risk after a blaze last summer started by carelessly tossed matches and cigarette butts. Signs posted Friday morning notify the public that no more fishing will be permitted. The owners note they retain this privilege due to the pond's small size and say trout fingerlings were added this year without their consultation. They emphasize security for nearby homes that rely on pond water and plan a shore platform for a fire engine as a safety improvement with pump installation for drinking water and domestic use in some families.
