The Fremont Nebraska Chamber of Commerce denounces federal aid as eroding local and state rights. It urges chambers nationwide to resist expanding federal influence and defend individual freedom, a free market, and limited government.
The House Agriculture Committee notes farm crop prices fell 8 percent over ten years while retail food prices rose 20 percent. The middleman’s share grows though profits may not. The committee admits rising middleman costs and praises food processors distributors and retailers for efficiency and cost sharing. The result is Americans spend less of income on food and are better fed.
A New York Stock Exchange booklet titled Does It Make Sense For Me To Buy Stocks outlines common sense investment steps. It urges investors to set objectives, understand risks, maintain cash reserves, seek facts and sound advice, and avoid tips and rumors while relying on MIP stocks from high standing companies.

Joseph G. Arsenault died Wednesday morning at Bath Memorial Hospital after a brief stay. Born February 2 1884 in Rogers New Brunswick he was the son of John and Veronica Arsenault. Surviving are his mother Marguerite of Rumford his daughter Josephine Bennett Bath two brothers and five sisters and numerous grandchildren. He worked as a buffer at Hyde Windlass Co. until retirement. Funeral 8 am Saturday at St Marys Church with rosary 8 pm Friday at Arthur F Mayo and Son Funeral Residence. Burial Oak Grove Family lot.
Rosa L. Chase 81 of Wiscasset died Thursday at a Bath nursing home. Widow of F M Chase former owner of Chase s Candy Store in Wiscasset she was born October 29 1878 in Wiscasset daughter of Knute and Fannie Rines. She was a charter member of Garrison Hill Chapter O E S. Survived by three daughters Dorothy C Lee Boothbay Erma L Chase Wiscasset Mary C McFadden Lewiston two sisters Della Chapman Rockland Marion Lint Wiscasset five grandchildren and two great. Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Congregational Church Wiscasset with interment in Green Lawn Cemetery Wiscasset.
Funeral service for Mrs. Gertrude P. Smith was held Monday at 2 p m at A F Mayo & Son Funeral residence with Rev. H E Danielson of Liberty officiating. Bearers were Herbert Pierce Ralph Blackington Frank MacIntosh and Linton Robinson. Burial was in Oak Grove family lot. Charles Andre Jr of Ridgewood N J will visit parents in Lincoln street then drive Miss Sarah Bunker to Maine for the summer and fly back Sunday.

The Rev Archie D Gillis 54 pastor of St Patrick s Roman Catholic church Damariscotta died suddenly at the rectory after a heart ailment. Born Oct 16 1904 in St Peters Harbour PEI he served in Portland Millinocket Augusta Brewer Rockland and was pastor of St Patrick s since 1948. Survived by his mother stepfather Edmund J G Arsenault and half brother Major Hubert J Arsenault US A.
Mark Langdon Hill 63 of Tucson Ariz a Bath native died Tuesday night at the Methodist hospital Texas Medical Center Houston He was born Aug 26 1895 in Bath son of Frederick D and Louise M Bridges Hill A US Navy veteran of both world wars he lived years in Falmouth Foreside later moving to Tucson He was employed by Hayden Stone Co and Marine Insurance Co He married Edith Harvey in 1927 Surviving widow a daughter Richard a son and four grandchildren plus siblings and a half brother
Miss Erma Farrar of Brunswick who once lived here joined members of the Brunswick-Topsham D A R for an all day luncheon and picnic at the home of Mrs. Orson A Kent in Days Ferry on Monday.
Ada Marr Purington 78 of 1201 Washington Street longtime Bath Registration Board chairman since 1941 died Wednesday after a brief hospital stay. She was widow of Arthur K. Purington former Bath Daily Times city editor. Survived by brother Roy Marr of Bath.
Funeral services were held for Gertrude P. Smith 65 who died Saturday at her Lake St. George cottage. Rev. John McDaniels presided at Arthur F. Mayo & Son Funeral Home with interment at Oak Grove. Born May 6 1894 in Machiasport she was survived by husband Raymond A. Smith two sons Otis A. Smith Bath and Burton W. Smith Ashland one daughter Mrs Reginald J. Saucier Bath two brothers Lester E. Cole Houston and Otis E. Cole Long Beach three sisters Mrs Julie Ayer Bath Mrs Pauline Joy Ellsworth and Mrs Gladys Roco Camden seven grandchildren and several nieces.
George Elmer Frost born April 11 1886 in Woodstock Maine died Thursday at Togus Veterans Hospital where he had been patient since December 25 1957 He was World War I veteran active in Veterans of Foreign Wars and past commander of Dyer Flaherty Bath and Brunswick posts He also served as department patriotic instructor Surviving are stepson Clarence Pentleton Farmingdale stepdaughters Mrs Arthur Charrier and Mrs Clifford Molson Woolwich and several nieces and nephews
Funeral services for Mrs Ada Puringotn were held at 1 30 PM Saturday at Curtis Funeral Home. The Rev Martin V B Sargent of Winter Street Congregational church officiated. Bearers included Harry Thebeau Harry E Ring Jr Edgar L Leavitt and David Y Alkazin. Interment followed at Maple Grove.
