Seven Keys to Baldpate charm crowds at local theatre
Local readers filled the Columbia theatre Wednesday to see the North-Center Parent-Teacher Association production of Seven Keys to Baldpate, a two act melodramatic farce set in Baldpate Inn. Performers H Augustus Huse and Mrs Clinton D Wilson drew hearty laughs as innkeepers, with Cecil Rowland as the frozen guest and Mary Norton portrayed by Elsie Burkhard. The plot follows a race to secure a hidden key and 200000 dollars tied to a railroad franchise, featuring a crooked mayor, a blackmailer, a hermit, and a loving couple whose romance unfolds amid intrigue. The action stays brisk from the opening blackout to the epilogue, with a final reveal that the drama was a practical joke by the inn’s owner.
