Bath plans a two week Merchants Celebration starting Monday under the Bath Board of Trade. 1200 Sir Knights of Templars arrive with five bands for a day of events. Pine Tree Amusement Co. brings a five ride five show road show with 20 concessions and a new whirly gig ride. July 4 features a full schedule including river sports, a firemen muster, boxing, a ball game, and prizes from Bath Iron Works Corp. and other plants.
Nequasset church hosted graduation for eight eighth graders from six Woolwich schools. Diploma presentation by Supt. John Carter followed recitations, songs, essays, and a play. Local school board members praised the event.
A bull moose swam across the Kennebec from Lines Island to the David Reed farm in Woolwich about seven on Monday morning. After emerging, the animal wandered the farm then disappeared into the woods. Moose sightings are common in north Woolwich with other tracks noted in John Preble’s swamp.
Acadia lodge R of P conducted a memorial service at the Pythian lot in Oak Grove cemetery on Sunday afternoon. One service was held for all deceased, with Chancellor Commander Harry Williams officiating assisted by Harry H. Watson. Graves were adorned with flowers and flags as William Mann chaired the organizing committee. A nine pound daughter, Norma Grace, was born Friday at Everett hospital. Mrs. Farrell, formerly Doris Perkins of Bath, had worked at Olympia Candy Store.
The Bath Garden Club held its final meeting of the season at the Cosmopolitan club with 32 members present. Mrs. John A. Morse spoke on plants for shady areas and Miss Anna Trott presented a paper on the Longfellow garden in Portland. The next club activity is a flower show at the American Legion home on June 26, inviting members to contribute flowers.
Summer guests travel to Shore Acres Sebasco for June 26 events at the clubhouse. The day includes a Shore Dinner at seven, golf and tennis access for ticket holders, and a grand bridge party with prizes. Tickets are limited and held by the committee.
A Bath lodge of Elks held a special meeting Friday to observe Flag Day with Exalted Ruler Harold V. Fielding presiding. Loyal Knight John P. Fire at 1202 Washington Street owned by Fred Silsby of Fair Haven Massachusetts damaged the unused wooden henhouse and scorched an adjacent oak tree. Mrs. Harry E. Dobson alerted Engine 2 after seeing smoke from the roof. firefighters quickly doused the flames though the structure was ruined.
The Brunswick Rotary club announced at Ho tel Eagle on Monday the newly elected officers led by Arthur B. Mrs Emely Leask 67 widow of Henry Leask died in Wichita Kansas on June 12 from a fractured skull after falling down basement stairs in her son Victor Leask's home. Surviving sons include William of Fairbury Nebraska Robert of Kansas City Missouri Henry of Bath and Thomas Leask of Woolwich.
Harold and Richard McElman dominate the first Leon grammar school track meet with wins in 220 440 880 yard dashes high jump and broad jump for Harold and in shot put javelin pole vault for Richard Perkins and Legard win 100 yard dash and discus. coaches David Alkazin and Clinton D Wilson oversee event.
The Go-Workers Class of the First Baptist church enjoyed an outdoor picnic and covered dish supper at 1207 Washington Street hosted by Mrs. Herbert E. Worrey. About 20 attendees sewed and played games before a six o'clock lawn supper. New members Florence Rowe and Ruth McKenzie joined after a brief business session.
Weekend bridge traffic was the heaviest of the season with total receipts of 1827.10. Massachusetts cars flooded the bridge days ahead of Bunker Hill Day on Monday in Boston. Saturday receipts were 796.20 and Sunday 1030.90, with 1447 of 1800 Sunday crossings paid cash. Laborers tarred the highway between Nequasset and Wiscasset, aiming to finish by Monday night for a smooth Rockland toll-road return Tuesday morning.

The funeral for Dr Thomas H Tarbox former Bath resident died suddenly last week was held Tuesday afternoon at his Providence Rhode Island home He was born in Westport son of Samuel Tarbox and Mrs Tarbox His childhood was in Bath He was a leading Optician in Providence Eva Sanford and daughter Edna left Saturday for Rockland to work at the Hotel Sam O Set for the summer.

Fort Macon fell after artillery fire from shore. The Mary E Pindar vanished with prize crew. Gemsbok sold in 1865. fate unknown. After long efforts to remove the schooner Mary F. Barrett from Bishop's wharf to Georgetown, officials plan to pump her out within days and tow her to Robinhood for final resting. Obstacles have delayed the operation, but removal seems imminent this week.
An accident on Petersons hill occurred shortly after eight o’clock Monday evening drawing attention from passing motorists.
