The Beacon Street auditorium hosted the Modern Woodmen memorial service as 35 members who have passed since 1899 were honored. Consul Clifton W. Tedford led the call and a 15 minute address by the late Charles E. Whalen’s prepared remarks reflected on the departed members. About 40 Bath Camp members attended, wearing badges and ribbons, filing into a reserved section for the service.
Two Auburn men and a Lewiston man faced arraignment before Recorder Owen J. Ledyard on intoxication charges and one man for driving with no license. James Moore, Joseph Billebeau, and Paul Hunt pleaded guilty, with fines of five dollars and costs totaling nine dollars and fifty cents. Hunt’s fine suspended on payment of costs. The three were picked up on the Lewiston road Saturday afternoon by Deputy Sheriff Fitz Falin. The car was driven by Hunt with the two intoxicated men as passengers until the arrest.
Norman J. McCabe Jr., a Bath athlete and son of a Bath Iron Works foreman, married Madeline Denison of Freeport on Sunday in Brunswick. She is a Freeport High School graduate of 1926, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Denison, and niece of the Pennells of Winnegance. The couple, attended by Clifford Creed and his wife, are vacationing downstream. McCabe plans to return to Steeves Market next week.
A Chrysler 80 sedan driven by Mrs. Fred H. Thompson of this city and a Reo coupe driven by Capt. A. M. Colby of Damariscotta collided just beyond Blind Crossing Monday evening. The Reo rolled off the road but occupants were uninjured. Mrs. Thompson suffered no injuries though her car was badly raked on one side. The Reo was passing a machine driven by Dr. W. C. Jefferson of Phippsburg when the crash occurred. A satisfactory settlement was made among those involved.
Mrs. Fred D. Hill is expected home Saturday from Lexington Virginia where she attended the graduation of her nephew Norman Hawes from Washington and Lee University. She traveled with Mrs. John A. Legro to New York where sister Mrs. Maud Hawes joined her for the remainder of the trip. On returning to Bath she will be joined at Beachmont Massachusetts by Mrs. Walter Hill and children Betty Lou Buddy and Junior to visit at High Street.
Rev. H. P. Jett of the Nazarene church leaves Monday morning by car for Knoxville Tennessee to spend three weeks visiting his father. He travels with Miss Alma Reid and Miss Augusta Pitts who will visit a friend in West Asheville North Carolina.
The Colonial club outlined a golf tournament series at Shores Acres next Sunday. A committee of Horace P. Morse Ralph O. Dale George A. Hunt and Clinton D. Wilson will finalize arrangements. Plans also cover the June 17 New Meadows Inn visitation the night before the season opens with tickets in demand. Stephen J. Wimmer of Lisbon Falls was elected a non resident member.

Capt J Leslie Coombs a famed sea captain long with John S Emery & Co died Sunday at his Bath home after a brief illness. Born Islesboro he commanded vessels from the brig Hattie to schooners Calumet Frontenac and James W Howard and later King sway during WWI. Survived by wife daughter Miss Elizabeth Coombs sister Miss A Emogene Sawyer brother Charles E Coombs and nieces Emo gene Coombs and Leslie Coombs.
Ann Maria Crosby 83 died suddenly at the home of her brother ex Mayor Elwell S. Crosby 709 High street after more than two years invalidism following a March 1927 hip and wrist break in West Palm Beach Florida She was born October 7 1845 in Woolwich and lived in Arrowsic Bath Boston and Bath again Her survivors include her brother a sister Mrs Moses A Hull and many Crosby nieces and nephews from several states.
Bath marked its centennial at Old Wesley Church on March 19 1881 with a full program. The event featured a Centennial Hymn by George E. Newman, historical address by Rev. H. O. Thayer, a oration by Hon. E. B. Nealley, and music by Andrews' Band.
The funeral for Miss Novella J. Trott who died Wednesday in Augusta after living over 50 years in the area was held Friday at her brother Alfred E. Trott’s Woolwich home. Rev. C. M. Tubbs officiated. Bearers were Cleveland Buck Carlton Trott Alfred Ames and Milton Trott. Burial followed in Riverside cemetery.
Sheriff Albert Henderson and deputies from Saga dahoe County joined by Androscoggin officials and five assistants scoured Saturday and Sunday near the Charles Roberts farm for a nude man alarming residents. Officers found a bare footprint and suspect William Knight from the Pownal Home for Feeble Minded, planning another large search to locate the stranger.
