Forest Fire Rages Georgetown Destroying 14 Homes
Last week’s fire at Five Islands, Georgetown destroyed three homes and eleven cottages, causing about 100000 dollars in losses. National Guardsmen and volunteers battled flames across MacMahon and Five Islands, saving several structures and stabilizing the situation with help from Bath Brunswick and Wiscasset crews.

The Bailey Evening School closed Tuesday after a 16 week run with 157 certificates awarded. Students earned at least 66 percent attendance and met standards. principal Mrs. Andrew C. Flaherty received a traveling bag from teachers. William S. Newell of Bath Iron Works spoke on mechanics and naval design principles to Applied Mechanics and Practical Mathematics class.

Dr. Warren E. Kershner of Bath, retiring president of the Maine Medical Association, received a mahogany gavel at the Bangor banquet. His successor, Dr. E. W. Ring of Portland, accepted the gavel.
