Tragic Drowning Of Robert Chaney Shocks City
The body of 15 year old Robert Chaney, son of Mrs. Frederick H. Pratt of 59 Pearl Street, was recovered Sunday morning from four feet of water at Steep Landing ledge in Whiskeag Creek. He reportedly cramps while swimming with friends, and several youths narrowly escaped danger during the incident. Sheriff and local officials conducted a lengthy search before divers located the body.

Sturgeon Captured In Kennebec River Near Bath
Horace Son Mitchell, a noted local fisherman, caught the first Kennebec river sturgeon in some time near Thorne Island Friday night. The fish measured six feet, weighed 100 plus pounds with spawn, and dressed out for shipment to New York. Spawn fetches up to two dollars per pound. Mitchell’s catch marks a notable river event. Mrs Marion Cullen works as cashier at Steeves Market.

Bath Observes Memorial Day With Large Parade
The Bath Memorial Day observance drew many citizens to a morning parade honoring veterans. Civil War veterans led the procession alongside Morse High School band and Roland Smith post drum corps. Pocketbook Disappears and Reappears After Work Day
Coleman A. Fraser, a contract carpenter of 41 Milan Street, misplaced a pocketbook with over $400 while shingling a Dummer Street house. After paying a helper, he left the wallet in a garage. Two local youths denied involvement but were questioned. Early Saturday, neighbors heard noise and saw two men flee. the pocketbook and money were found in the same spot, with no funds missing.

Old Ironsides to Visit Bath in July
The U S S Constitution known as Old Ironsides will visit Bath in July on a post restoration cruise. Secretary of the Navy Charles F. Adams announced dates from July 1 to 23 with stops at Boston Portsmouth Bar Harbor Bath and Portland and a later appearance at Yorktown for the sesquicentennial. Restoration work led by Bath naval constructor Lieut. John A. Lord will restore the ship to its 1812 1814 condition and include a history of the craft.
