Small fortunes from old Bath shipyard diggings

In Bath during the late teens and 1920s the Texas Steamship Co shipyard yielded thousands in scrap iron. Diggers, mostly with regular jobs, extract about 1000 tons yearly at $6 a ton locally and $9 in Portland. Rivets and other unused shipyard metals emerge from mud since WWI, with some rich finds like 200 pound steel plates. Diggers hope to uncover more pockets as they move from yards to mud flats and shorelines.
