Eight Pound Striper Taken Near Reach in Maine Waters
Philip Sirois of Bath landed an eight pound striped bass at Morse's Cove below the Range lights after a day of angling that yielded four other stripers averaging five pounds. The fish weighed at Sam Povich's store and may earn the Wentworth trophy for Maine's largest striped bass. Sirois, a woodsman, previously caught a seven pound Kennebec striper in 1938 and was employed cutting pulpwood at Wiscasset. An affidavit witnesses the weighing and will be sent to the Maine Development Commission for eligibility.
