Two surveys show a rise in American farm values from 1934 to 1935 with gains in 30 states, few declines, and 13 unchanged. Urban to rural migration reverses, aided by unemployment, profitable specialty farming, and immigrant relocation. Farms increase, aided by scientific methods and cooperatives, signaling stronger prospects for self-supporting citizens.
The Skowhegan fair directors have changed their position on horse race betting and will install the pari mutuel system after previously deciding against it. Governor Brann had assured fairs earlier that if the Department of Agriculture could not fund the state stipend for betting, he would consult the executive council to avoid loss of support.
Authorities grant youths access to a supervised bathing area at Whiskeay Lake with the condition they do not trespass on nearby properties. Cooperation to avoid nuisance will sustain the privilege for years, while ongoing disturbances may lead to its withdrawal.

The theme World Friendship sent children to the Arctic Equator Desert China and Japan via film as the pastor directed Bible and visual lessons and showed 2000 feet of film on Christian outreach.
Evangeline Haynes reports from Bath of dramatic flood conditions in Binghampton after heavy rains. Two buildings tottered and collapsed while a brick structure nearby crumbled and danger of undermining grew. Their home and parish house were damp with belongings piled high to avoid damage. Early in the writing, it appeared they might avoid inundation.

On July 2 three births occurred on Mt Vernon Avenue including Marie Coulombe Joseph Cote and Joseph Jean. The next day a baby girl was born to Mr and Mrs Alonzo Dostie. Residents joke about posting a shotgun guard after recalling the Dionne family sighting.
Fred Sturtevant fired his second perfect 25 in the Sagadahoc Rod Gun and Skeet Association weekly shoot at Bath skeet range. With 14 shooters, he led with 47 of 50, ahead of Bernard McCausland 46, while Walter Woodbury 44 and Dr. George Hibbs 40 trailed. Mrs. Samuel Morse was the lone woman shooter with 13.
Seventeen Maine coast yacht clubs gathered in Boston to form the Maine Yacht Racing Association to govern racing between Kittery and Winter Harbor. The body aims to conduct state junior and women's championships and select crews for Sears Bowl and Adams Cup events, with hoped entries this season for Stamford and Greenwich contests. Secretary Dr. Seth M. Milliken will serve until a regular slate.

Franklin Howe aged nine, son of Mr and Mrs John M Howe of Upper Washington street, topped competitors in a bowling game at the West Bath grange lawn party on Thursday evening winning five times and earning 2.50 amid a crowded grounds with a late dance from ten to twelve.
Harold J. Sonia of 103 Beacon Street converts Sewall's field east of High Street into a poultry farm. A 100 chick brooder already operates with plans to add hundreds more chicks and 75 to 100 turkeys by fall. The farm spans High Street to Crescent with Crescent and private property to the south, fenced at Frogapa rear of the old Dummer steel schoolhouse. Sonia, son of John E. Sonia, works for Representative Sumner Sewall and has wintered in Florida in hospitality before turning to poultry farming.
Bath Country club two golf league started the second half as 21 players competed. The Kro-Flites led by Dr. F A Winchenbach lost only once the first half and face the Top-Flites led by Bill Girard who set a team record 36 percent and broke the low gross mark with 38. Gold Cups defeated Acushnets and Tournaments beat Royals in Thursday’s play with detailed scores and averages for each group.
Bath motorists enjoy a popular summer drive from Topsham to Bowdoinham via Merrymeeting Bay. A new highway from the Fair Grounds to bay overlooks provides views of the Androscoggin, Kennebec, and Cathance rivers. Bowdoinham, with improved roads toward the bay, connects to Bowdoinham Fair grounds and Middleton road toward Cathance.
Washington confirms Stanley J. Bickle a Bath native will serve as assistant auditor in the claims division of the Agricultural Adjustment Administration. The Morse high school graduate and Northeastern attendee began duties after his appointment, following support from Congressman Simon Hamlin. Bath residents Mrs. Frank Sewall and Miss Nancy Sewall visited Kennebunkport after staying at the Arundel.

The United States Civil Service Commission announces an open competitive exam for roller, brass and copper at the Navy Yard Washington D C with daily pay of 5 28 to 6 08. Applicants need six months experience operating rolling machines for brass and copper slabs and thickness. Applications due by Aug 5 to the Fourth U S Civil Service District or Navy Yard Labor Board. Mrs Vesta R Williams of Jackman retires after 31 and 13 years teaching in the same building. She was born in Embden and educated in that town schools. Later she studied at Farmington State Normal, graduating there.
John E. MacDonald son of Mr and Mrs MacDonald of Sanford sailed Wednesday from New York en route to China where he has accepted a position as teacher at Tungs chien with the South China American school a preparatory school for those who plan to enter American colleges. Mr MacDonald was graduated from Yale university in June.

The school department reduced its estimate and awarded a contract Thursday for up to 500 tons of coal to Citizens Coal Co at 7.12 dollars per ton for the ensuing year. Evelyne Donnell resigned from the fifth grade at Mitchell school, accepted by the Board. Four new teachers were elected on a new 700 dollar entrance salary basis: Jane Feere Paul O Mason Theo McNeil Marjorie Palmer. Roll of accounts totaling 793.63 was ordered paid. All Board members except Mayor Sewall attended the meeting of the Board of Education.
For the next two Sundays Rev. Joseph O. Purdue pastor of Winter Street church will exchange pulpits with two noted New England preachers. On July 21 Rev. Charles B. Sowder of Wiscasset will preach, followed by Rev. Harold Edgar Martin of Foxboro, Mass on July 28.
Mrs Benjamin H Woodside of Georgetown is named sub chairman of the Maine Three Quarter Century Club in Sagadahoc county succeeding Mrs L Earle Hagan. Appointed by county chairman Mrs Fred H Lord, she will list Georgetown residents aged 75 and over. The annual gathering is planned for Farmington next month, date to be determined.
B L Donnell and Mrs Donnell of Portland were guests of Mrs Lewis Totman of Edward street on Wednesday July 11.
Winfield Rowe of Massachusetts, visiting Bath, recounts polo days in Bath and at Popham Beach. He coached the undefeated Popham Beach polo team that played 14 games, listing players including James Perkins and Jim Scanlon. Rowe notes he may visit weekends and may be the last surviving member of that group from the eighties.
