Second Offense Brings Auto Driver Ninety Days in Jail
Edward C. Leonard of Topsham received a 90 day sentence in Kennebec county jail after a second DUI conviction. Deputy Edward Belanger was complainant. Leonard had a prior drunken driving conviction July 5, 1947 in Bath Municipal Court. A second charge of driving while license suspended was placed on file. Fred Larrabee of Monmouth waived reading on two larceny warrants for two Pelkey Motor Co. plates and a bad check at a local hotel. Deering found Larrabee guilty of plate larceny and fined 19.60 court costs. He also convicted for passing a $16 bad check at the Hotel Phoenix and fined 20. Bridgham appealed both convictions and Larrabee was ordered to recognize with sureties of 200 on each warrant, pending grand.

Battery B from Bath will leave around August 14 for active duty with the 703rd AAA Gun Battalion now to be mobilized. The unit will be federalized with no age or dependent exceptions, and about 100 men aged 17 to 40 will depart with full equipment for a minimum 21 months service.

Maine topped its Independence Bond Drive with 2,951,478 in sales, 116.5 percent of its $2,533,000 quota. A J Cole of Bangor, state chairman, reported Sagadahoc county led Maine with 248 percent, followed by Hancock 177.4 and Franklin 1529 percent. all counties met their nine week quotas.
