Fire Destroys Bath Home. Two Die In Bowery Street Blaze
A two alarm fire engulfed a two story Bowery Street building formerly Kelley Spear & Co. offices in Bath, killing five year old Dorothy M. Lewis and Roscoe A. Mains, injuring three others, as flames trapped occupants. Mr. Lewis saved his family yet suffered severe burns and hospital treatment followed for his wife and other children. Firefighters fought the blaze for nearly three hours amid a crowd of spectators, with a destroyed stairway hindering rescue efforts. The city owned structure left only charred remains and officials could not determine the fire’s origin.
