Rev Charles M Tubbs of Grace Church was elected president of the Standing Committee of the Diocese of Maine. Rev John A Furrer of St Johns Banor named secretary and Rev William E Berger of St Thomas Camden named member to fill Perkins vacancy. The council accepted a 7200 national mission quota with British aid, and an extra appeal for army and navy chaplains. Bishop Oliver Loring presided and noted several churches without clergy.

Work progresses on addition to Morse High School
Construction on the three story wing at Morse High School advances despite skilled labor shortages. Excavation for the basement nears completion as brick walls rise before cold restrains lift. The Republican City committee met in City Hall last week to set ward caucus dates February 10 and mayoralty caucus date February 11. Mayor Walter C Rog ers was the only named candidate mentioned in brief discussion. Presidents Ball Rsvp Aids After Sabattus Auto Crash
At the State Armory a Presidents Ball fundraiser drew notable attendees while a car crash on Sabattus Street injured Hamblett and two others. Sabattus police reported Hamblett, unfamiliar with the road, asked if he had been speeding after the vehicle left the highway and rolled. Passengers Portner, Wootdon, and Oliver escaped with minor injuries. Hamblett and two others were treated at Croatia Marine General Hospital.
