The Bath Centennial committee discusses financing for the event proposing a $10,000 city underwrite with projected income of $9,000 and expenses of about $14,000. Officials note funds may be spent carefully and aim for a self sustaining celebration with merchant and citizen support.
Rev L E Hodgkins appointed as pastor of Central Church. Born in Lisbon Falls he studied at Bowdoin and Boston University School of Theology. He served 26 months overseas with the 35th Division and left the Army February 1946 as captain, awarded the Bronze Star. Mrs Hodgkins is Virginia born, they have son Melvin.
First shipment of diesel engines for 32 trawlers being built at Bath Iron Works for the French Supply Commission is en route from Copenhagen aboard the Danish tanker Argentine. Engines will be landed at Portland and moved by rail to Bath, with four 25 ton cranes to assist unloading at the west yard of New England Shipbuilding Corp. Work continues amid winter delays as keel laying progresses and more engines are expected.
Archibald M. Main, vice chairman of Bath Iron Works Corp., was unanimously elected president of Bath Memorial Hospital at the annual meeting in City Hall. The report showed a 1946 balance of 7234.84 on hand, 207704.46 receipts, and 204854.26 disbursements.
Fr Timothy C. Maney pastor of St. Mary's Catholic church hosted a Sunday night gathering at Hotel Phoenix for parishioners including choir members Sunday school staff and collectors. The event featured crepe hat favors music and a community sing along with remarks by Maney and Henry Biggins.
Mrs. Richard Haskell and her son Richard of North Street are visiting Dr. and Mrs. Lloyd G. Davies at their home in Fryeburg.
The Genesta chapter O E S holds its 47th annual installation at the Masonic Temple with yellow and white floral arrangements, 300 attendees, and a candlelight service. Ruth Williams sings selection. Doris Pride retires as matron with a farewell address and gifts.

The 1890s scene shows George P Davenport on the second floor of a building once housing Davenport Real Estate and Insurance, Franklin P Sprague law office, Western Union, Woodward Coal, M W Sewall Co and Postal Telegraph. About 40 Bath residents attended a Bath Forum on Civic Government at Morse High School. A draft of the proposed new council manager form of charter for Bath was shown and opened for discussion. William Turpie chaired the Special Advisory committee with Bowdoin College’s Prof. Lawrence Pelletier assisting. The draft, described as preliminary, will undergo revisions as the committee continues hearings, having held 17 meetings to study Bath’s present charter. The committee noted major issues in the current document, including looseness and lack of continuity.
Fred W. Quimby announces a Republican City committee meeting Thursday at 7 30 in the common council room City Hall. The session will set ward and mayoral caucus dates and begin campaign planning. Possible mayoral candidates discussed include former Mayor Walter C Rogers and James Stanton of Duncan Meter Corp with ongoing caucus activity.
The City Recreation Commission opened a new hockey rink at Goddard's South End playground and it draws wide use for hockey and skating. The Boys Club and City hockey teams hold practices there and Saturday marked the first officially scheduled match in the city.
