Eight Pound Salmon Caught at Winnegance Smelt Dock
Percy W. Plant of 161 Middle Street hauled out an eight pound salmon near the Winnegance bridge while fishing for smelts at the Merry shore area. The catch was displayed at Lyde's Market, with local excitement over the unusual prize. A week earlier another fisherman on Winnegance grounds caught a striped bass on a smelting line.

The South End P T A held an all day session in Washington street rooms and voted to join with city P T A s to entertain Mrs Haven Sawyer of Bangor president of the Maine Congress of Parents and Teachers on February 17 Founders Day. They presented Mrs Arthur C Lemont with a silk sofa pillow from Mrs Carroll A Deering and reported satisfactory committee work and a strong treasury. Thetis a 165 foot U S Coast Guard patrol boat built by Bath Iron Works captured the supply ship Cadet off Nantucket with 1000 sacks of liquor aboard in a $159000 haul. Commanded by Lieut F T Kenner the crew of 45 joined Division Two Destroyer Force after commissioning seven weeks earlier.
