The U S S De Haven a second destroyer of that name to be built at Bath Iron Works will be launched Sunday per the First Naval District. The ship honors Lt Edwin Jesse De Haven born 1816 who served 1829 1857 and died 1865 in Philadelphia. Sponsor is Miss Helen N De Haven of Ardmore Pa Cmdr Charles E Tolman of Concord Mass commanded the preceding De Haven and earned the Navy Cross while listed as missing in action since the battle.

Man Pleads Guilty in Municipal Court to Intoxication
One man appeared in Municipal Court Wednesday morning and pleaded to intoxication. He received 105 days in Augusta jail, after being arraigned Monday and ordered to pay costs or serve 15 days, with probation granted. He admitted after leaving court Monday that he drank after and was given 90 days for the current charge and original probation violation, to run consecutively. Edward P. Kendall aged 98, co inventor with his father J M Kendall of the Kendall tide wheel, died Monday night at the house where he was born May 27, 1857. He was a Golden Sheaf member of Merrymeeting Grange and a Bowdoinham Masonic lodge member, of Revolutionary descent. Funeral services were held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the family home. interment in Sampson cemetery. Surviving relatives include a sister Carrie Kendall, a nephew Maxwell Kendall of Augusta, a grandniece Miss Frances Kendall A B of Smith College, and a grandnephew Richard Goodwin Kendall now in the U S Air Corps. Lieutenant Gile Killed in Action in Italy
First Lieutenant William G. Gile a 26 year old Bowdoinham resident serving with the Fifth Army in Italy was killed in action December 16. He was born October 6 1917 in Bowdoinham and educated in Bath schools, later graduating from Coombs High Bowdoinham and Portland Junior College. He left with the 103rd Infantry in February 1941 and rose to first lieutenant before the invasion of North Africa. Surviving him are his wife Attalie Whippie Gile and daughter Margaret Elise of Westbrook, his mother Mrs Margaret B. Gile, and several aunts and uncles. Mrs Gile has been living with her parents in Westbrook.
