Wyman Optimistic Over Conditions For Present Year
Wyman president of Central Maine Power Co notes after Oct 1 business decline accelerated nationwide and in territory. Wool goods shoes and paper sales fell sharply causing mills to close partly or wholly and many workers to lose jobs. Water from heavy rains allowed removing steam production and improving river conditions. By late December net earnings looked near prior year estimates despite weaker demand. He cites upcoming plant moves in Augusta Lisbon and Rockland with 200 jobs each and a new Solon development to raise head and boost power. Construction costs total about 1.39 million with potential 7 MW unit plan pending 1938 decision. Security markets stagnate hindering back-dividend financing plans. Continuous progress on dam and head works planned through spring.
