Fear of Deportation to Russia Triggers Attempted Self Harm
John Solomitzski, 38, a Russian immigrant in Bath, attempted suicide by ingesting iodine to avoid deportation to Russia where he feared being shot. He had fled the Russian army 17 years earlier and worked for paper mills and mosquito control. He was found on Bath’s steps near the Bath National Bank and treated at City Hospital. His attorney, John P. Carey, says Solomitzski demanded $1,000 from a settlement rather than $500 offered by a South ern Surety Co. and threatened to return to Russia. The episode occurred after Carey’s office visit and involved prior compensation and a Musket? context.
