January meeting of Pomona Grange held at Topsham
Sagadahoc Pomona met with Topsham Grange Wednesday of last week and entertained Androscoggin Pomona. 350 persons attended, largest gathering. The fifth degree was conferred on a class of 17. Sagadahoc Pomona to observe its 50th anniversary in April at West Bath Grange hall with officers of Androscoggin to confer the degree in late April.

Maine Lumbering Scenes In Sagadahoc County Trial by Winter
A Maine lumber scene in Sagadahoc County shows John G. Morse & Sons of Winnegance at work since January 1 with two yokes of oxen and horses hauling logs on the Middlesex road. The lot once owned by Alfred Hunter of Topsham yielded 11 logs 18 to 20 feet long weighing about eight tons, with 2719 feet of timber. Fred E. Scammon of Topsham hauled the logs to the Androscoggin near the Brunswick Topsham bridge. Hunter’s death followed an accident when his team bolted the sled. The Morse family business traces to 1801, with the current generation planning to continue in lumber. The logs will be rafted and towed to the Morse mill at Winnegance after ice clears.
