A fierce weekend storm and high tides caused extensive damage at Popham Beach Maine. Dozens of seaside cottages along the east beach were wrecked or ruined, with many overhanging shifting sands and supported by pilings. Private Richard C. Kingsbury son of Mrs Robert Kingsbury 374 Front Street has completed the Army Supply Course at Fort Dix. The eight week program by the 9th Division Artillery covered supply methods reforms and records with typing included. Kingsbury a Morse High School graduate trained with Company A 39th Infantry Regiment also of the 9th Infantry Division Fort Dix.
Roland D. McIntosh owner of Excel Oil Co and electrical shop in Woolwich purchases property on the west side of Front street from 136 to 142 Front street from Bath Realty Co. The Christian Science Reading Room occupies part of the street front and McIntosh operates a branch store above the street floor with four upstairs apartments. County Attorney Harold J. Rubin handled the transaction last week.
Miss Roberta Barter and Cpl. Wallace Savage Jr plan marriage during a 10 day Christmas furlough. Barter, Morse High School graduate 1950, is daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Reginald Barter of 55 Denny road. Savage, Bath's Battery B 703rd AAA Gun Battalion, stationed at Camp Stewart, is Morse High alumnus and son of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Savage of Woolwich.
Donna Maria Hazen infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Hazen was baptized at Wesley church. Harold T. Burnham and family transferred membership from First Congregational Greenfield. Paul Blackett Coombs, son of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Coombs, was baptized on Pauls first birthday.
A temporary fire alarm box is stationed at Winnegance near Wyman's store replacing Box 114 knocked out by the windstorm three weeks ago. The new box will sound thirteen on the system if pulled. Box 131 at Rose and High streets is back in service, leaving only Box 132 at High and Getchell streets inoperative.
Mrs. Archie Brown Jr of North Conway N H, daughter of Bath residents, marries Cpl John Guerette of Bath and 703rd AAA Gun Battalion at Camp Stewart. Bride wore gray gabardine, attends by Mrs. Robert McKenna. best man was J G R McKenna. The couple planned brief trips to Savannah Ga and Jacksonville Fla.
Cosmo club members will leave gifts at the Bath clubhouse by Friday for patients at the Maine State hospital. Mrs. W. Dayton Hill, appointed by the Red Cross, will collect parcels late Friday afternoon. Gift lists include items for men and women with guidance to gift wrap and label contents.
Roberta Haab 13, daughter of Mr and Mrs Joseph E Haab Jr of 243 Washington St, was struck by a car driven by Alyce Chapman 24 while crossing a driveway on Washington Street. She sustained a ruptured spleen internal hemorrhage chest rib and shoulder injuries and left arm lacerations and remains in Memorial Hospital in critical condition. She is a sixth grade pupil at Weeks Street School.
