Notes state Susan Carol, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. St Diggory of Washington DC, born December 4 at Alexandria Hospital, Virginia. Mrs. Diggory, formerly Virginia C Wallace, is daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis F Wallace of West Point. Mrs. Wallace visiting with daughter and son-in-law, plans to return to West Point in two weeks.
In a recent society gathering students were honored for scholastic achievement at the college. Miss Chu-ingham returned from Boston where she attended a national dance artists meeting with delegates from across the United States. Mrs. Jose Imaan arrived from Anchorage for a visit with her parents. Attys and residents noted Christmas preparations and a tour of duty ending in March. Several local families welcomed newborns and reported family events. reminders of services and travel filled the week’s social calendar.
Ruth Ellen Winter a ninth grade pupil at Bath Junior High School and Robert Hunter a fourth grade pupil at Huse Memorial School are both confined to their home on Old Brun. The report notes health concerns and school absence affecting both students with limited details available.

Miss Edna June King recuperates at home after three weeks at Maine Medical Center Portland with treplocorscus pneumonia. Mr and Mrs Henry T B Leemin return to 13 Somerset Place after time at home camp in Osborne. Thanksgiving guests include Wr and Mrs Norman Q Magoon of Osborne where Mr Leemin hunted a deer during the stay.
Fire Chief Richard J. Frates will attend a meeting of the New England Fire Chiefs Association at the Hotel Statler in Boston. He will be accompanied by William J. Curran. Mrs Russell Grant has returned to her home in East Hartford after visiting relatives in Bath Union Street Court.
Hyde Memorial Rehabilitation patients attended Mohiba at Maree High School with Miss Heather McClure. Airman Stuart Kochi and family welcomed a daughter Rainy Lynne born Nov 24 in West Palm Beach weighing seven pounds eight ounces.
Mr and Mrs Loyall F Sewall returned Monday to their home in New York City after a weeklong visit with Mr and Mrs Arthur Sewall in Washington They plan to spend Christmas with Mr Sewalls sister Mrs Walter E Rider in Thomasville Georgia Also Mr and Mrs Cecil Barter of Friendship were Sunday guests of Mrs Barter and Mr Bowen on Center Street.
The Rev Vir Arnold led the dedication address at Fiirbanks Union church of Aho to Bath for the Aletia L. Hardy Memorial. Emerton Gross and family visited Camden, while Donald Nodine underwent an appendectomy at Memorial hospital as Morse High School sophomore.
Mr and Mrs Carl Y Kennedy of Melbourne Florida conclude several days visit with friends in this area as they depart after a pleasant stay.
Sendra Jean McRae a 13 month old daughter of Donald and Mrs. McRae of 37 Court street is a medical patient at Memorial hospital. Mr and Mrs Felix Small of Lisbon Falls were Tuesday guests of Mr and Mrs Wilbur Casey at their Washington street home.
Mr and Mrs Milton C Trott return to their High street home after a brief visit with their daughter and son in law Mrs George Burgon of Hampton NE.
Portland social security district manager Keith C. Coombs warns severely disabled workers aged 50 to 65 must apply by December 31 to receive retroactive benefits to July. Eligibility requires a disabling condition, five of ten years of Social Security credits, and a year and a half within the last three years.
The Bath Extension Service met to plan for the year with a social hour at Hyde Park and a Christmas gathering. Officers and members discussed a party, demonstrations on liquid embroidery, and a calendar of programs from January to December featuring topics on health planning time use wardrobe and meat cuts.
Two tire and wheel thefts are under investigation in Bath County. Donald J. Ernero notified on Dec 4 that a green 1957 Chevrolet left at a Route 1 West Bath harbor was stripped of two 670x145 tires and wheels. Harry Warner, custodian at Fisher School, reported two 16 inch tires and wheels stolen from his green 1949 Ford parked at the school, with the car jacked up and left lowered and caps and bolts left behind.
Mrs. William Shea was elected Excellent Senior of Lowell Temple with other officers named including Mrs. Luce Lia Blake Excellent Junior and Mrs. George Darrah Manager. Also chosen were Mrs. Willard Sprague Secretary Mrs. Edward Perry Treasurer and more. Birthday cakes were given to Mrs. George Melzard and Mrs. Iva Lee Cousins. A supper followed.
The Nurses' Alumni Association of Bath Memorial Hospital donated a hospital paging system now in operation. A microphone at the switchboard and 14 speakers placed throughout the hospital comprise the system.
Charles W. Strong of Togus Veterans Hospital thanks Smith-Tobey Post in Bath for 256.20 donated to hospitalized veterans. Funds will buy 50c canteen books for patients to spend on items of their choice, boosting morale.
Miss Mary Cunningham of the Modern School of Dancing entertained fifth to seventh grade pupils at her Front Street studio with a Christmas Hobo party. Prizes honored orig inal costumes worn by Bernice Clark and Dewey Gay. The program featured rock and roll jitterbug and square dancing with prize games for Bonnie Chas Kathy Scott and David Gay. Assistants included Mrs Grace Cunningham Lee Taylor Paula McLain Donald Smith and Adrienne.
Firemen responded at 4 16 p m Sunday to Weeks and Washington street after a report of a blaze at the Bath Iron Works dump but no fire was found. Bobby Boyd a Chicago middleweight and former butcher and grocery clerk is mentioned.
After an ice storm left Popham without electricity and telephone service for hours, residents used kerosene lamps Monday. By Tuesday afternoon power and phone service returned and community life resumed with Youth Fellowship wreath making for a charity project at Phinnsburg Center P.T.A. hall.
County officials posted signs warning that Cox's Head road will be cleared only up to the driveway of Stanton C Dozois as winter traffic plans take effect. On Sunday motorists were seen gathering greens and cutting Christmas trees for holiday decorations.

Prizes were awarded for a cake raffle, automobile quiz, balloon stunt, and mystery prize.
Phippsburg P. T. A. holds its annual Christmas supper at Riverside hall. Unity Circle meets December 17 at 8 p.m. at Mrs. Thomas Totman’s home. School Union 48 elected Howard Bowen temporary assistant superintendent while Supt. Gilman is on sick leave. Bodwell Grange appoints committees and plans a Christmas party for Dec. 21. Work on the new school progresses with roof beams up and brick work around the entrance underway. Local residents mentioned include Shirley Pratt, students aiding Mohiba, and several visits and travels among townsfolk including births, hospital stays, and community events.
Jessie Morrell June Wright and Dorothy Wright are noted as members. The next meeting is announced for January 14 with a covered dish supper at six before the regular meeting.
Ralph Mittendorf, former Bath city manager, was elected to Ironton City Council. Mittendorf served Bath from 1948 to 1952, later led Ironton as city manager and presently serves as secretary of Excelsior Building and Loan Association. He won a strong vote, second only to the leading slate, amid a three man opposing slate drafted by a better government committee.
Morse High School senior Thomas S. Toothaker, 18, is among 46 Maine semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program. The Maine group advances after high scoring on the qualifying test taken by 7,500 students nationwide, with a three hour college board exam to follow and about 1,800 anticipated to win merit scholarships totaling up to $2,200 per year based on need.
