A long list of Thanksgiving visitors and family gatherings from Gloucester to Bath and surrounding towns is reported. Residents hosted relatives from Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Maine, with many dinners and weekend visits noted at homes on Noble Avenue, Park Street, Washington Street, and other local streets. Several military families and students are mentioned along with a birth announcement for Patti Lynn Orr.
Mrs Ray Parker and Conrad Parker with families plan a weekend visit to Mrs Parker s sister in Allston Massachusetts to attend the wedding of Francis Bisson to Margaret Hayden at St Joseph s Framingham with a reception in Southborough Arms. Guests include Mrs Frank Wakefield of Zaring celebrating with Mrs Nancy Thomas. The Parkers also announce a move to San Francisco where Parker will pursue insurance work. Additional notices mention Atty Julius Appleton and family visiting Mrs Edmund P Briggs Center Street. Lt Henry M Powers visiting his parents on Washington Street after Navy service. Mrs Alice Stilphen visiting family in Bath, and Rev Richard Arnold with local families at Beacon Street Methodist parsonage. John McInnes and son Duncan Roger attended the Army Navy game in New York.
Announcements report the birth of a son to Mr and Mrs Raymond Flow er in Saratoga Springs named Robert Peter weighing nine pounds two ounces. Various Thanksgiving Day visits are listed among local families including Cahill Hill McInnes Merchant Colby Whit ney and others. Marriage intentions are filed for Wilford Rice Sherry Robinson Paul Morang Frances Plummer and for Midshipman Joseph Darling and Richard Darling.
Morse High opened its regular season with a 72 to 48 win over Edward Little. Morse dominated with strong defense, rebounding, and fast passing, building a 41-25 halftime lead and maintaining control into the final period as Bishop, Towle, King, and Sprague led the scoring.
Cosmopolitan Garden Club will hold a Monday afternoon gathering with social hour and music in the Christmas season. An exchange of gifts will occur and exhibits will be on display. Mrs. Mabel Harris chairs the event with Mrs. Vivian Brown assisting.
Orrin Guy Caverly, 66, retired superintendent of Singer Sewing Machine Manufacturing Co. in Elizabeth, New Jersey, died Monday in Westfield. Born in Lowell, Maine, he lived in Lewiston and later returned to New Jersey. Survived by son Roy L. Caverly of Lowell, two sisters, eight grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren. Funeral services in Lowell with burial there.
Miss Anne S. Day of Green Street departed Wednesday for a brief visit in Boston.
The Pilgrim Fellowship of Winter Street Church met Sunday evening at the parish house with Ralph Caldwell of Brunswick Naval Air Station as guest speaker. His talk centered on the perplexing commandment Thou Shalt Not Murder. Miss Nancy Temple led a worship service and Hildreth H. Fisher supervised the meeting.
The American Legion Smith-Tobey post will hold a regular meeting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. New members will be inducted by Post Commander Abraham Greenblatt. Reports from the finance recreation and membership committees will be heard along with updates on the Junior Legion baseball program by Donald Perry and a cigarette supply project for Togus by chairman Nelson Foss, Third District Commander.
At a director's meeting Bath Iron Works Corp. declared a dividend of 65 cents per share payable on January 2 to stockholders of record December 18. The announcement names the company and dates, reflecting a typical corporate dividend notice.
A Toledo safety crew setting warning flare pots on a road widening project detected smoke and found a fire close behind. One flare pot tipped and ignited the rear of their truck, prompting a nearby response by the team.
Sheriff’s Sgt Roy Cornelison says he lost a box of 12 prized homing pigeons and has not seen any sign of them since the incident in Fontana California.
Mrs Russell Hitchcock of Sheepscot was a local visitor on Tuesday, stopping by several area spots and briefly sharing greetings with neighbors during the day.
Popham Circle held a game night at the Library drawing a good turnout despite rain. Mrs Nancy Spinney led as general chairman with refreshments sold to aid church needs and Circle benevolences.

U S Coast Guard boat operated up river Sunday afternoon with several local residents and guests mentioned among attendees. Personal items list several visits and dinners involving Bernard Carlson Dix's Island Erin Bibber Harpswell Bessie Sprague Suit's Point and Stanton C Dozois plus Thanksgiving gatherings with Clark Carlisle Bath and others.
A lunch item features cooked drained prunes stuffed with peanuts and served with creamstyle cottage cheese, accompanied by crisp greens and salad dressing.

Mrs. Harold J Foley and son Michael arrived last week from Puerto Rico where they have resided during the war. Mr. Foley an AD1 in the U S Navy was stationed there. For eight months prior the family lived in Panama. They will live with Mrs Foley's parents Mr and Mrs Leo Gallant at 415 Lark Street for three months until Mr Foley completes duties in the states. He is attached to Fasion 105 Navy Air Station in San Juan.
Mr and Mrs Loring F Hart and family of Northfield Vermont were Thanksgiving guests of his parents Raymond Cummings at 2 Maxwell Street and his mother Elizabeth N Hart at 504 High Street Mrs Hart is a Norwich University English and American literature instructor and the family shared reunion moments with relatives during the holiday season
The Joint School committee of School Union 48 will meet tonight at Woolwich Central school at 7 30. Bodwell grange meets Saturday at 8 p.m. Christmas observances are planned by several groups including the Phippsburg Sportsmen's Association and the Phippsburg PTA. A by laws committee will meet December 11, wreaths are being made, and candlelight services are planned for December 22 and 24. Several residents returned to schools after Thanksgiving and families hosted dinners and visits around town.
Dale A. Farrington 21 of Brunswick Naval Air Station paid a 25 fine after pleading guilty to speeding Monday on Route 1 in West Bath. Harold F. Butts 27 of Portland was fined 15 for failing to come to a stop at Vine and Washington streets on Monday.
A union spokesman said on Wednesday that 52 members of Local 6 left by car for out of town work. The group includes 21 welders elders three outside machinists nine pipefitters four shipfitters seven chippers and six electricians.
