Mayor Small Explains City Management Shifts
Mayor Small told aldermen his approach to city governance has changed amid unemployment relief. He cited using overtime hires funded through general funds, keeping work from the overseers of the poor, and avoiding formal council meetings to act quickly. Alderman Wold pressed for clarity on overdrafts and funding while the mayor defended his actions and announced plans to drop extra help tonight.

Argentine Adventurer and Officer Who Rescued Him Off Cape Hatteras
Manuel Biasco Cruz, a 37 year old Argentine painter from Bath, sailed Aug 6 in a 23 foot cat boat to Punta Arenas. His craft Olga struck a submerged log near Cape Hatteras on Nov 26, leaving him adrift for 24 hours until the steamship Somerset rescued him off Savannah. He survived on tinned meat and bread, was flown aboard by a ladder, and now visits Tampa before plans to sail again from Jacksonville. He saved his barometer and compass and is grateful to Captain Dix and First Officer Lewis of the Somerset.

Adams memorial statue and grave site described
An obituary fragment recalls Adams life in France studying cathedrals at Mont Saint Michel and Chartres, returning to Washington, and dying at eighty on Easter morning 1918. It then voices impressions of his memorial in an outlying cemetery with a crescent bench and seated bronze figure praised by English and French writers as a peerless work of sculpture.
