Emmons, 68, former Lisbon Falls resident and World War I veteran, died at Togus Veterans Hospital after months of illness. He leaves a widow, a daughter, a son, a sister, three brothers, and seven grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Crossman’s in Lisbon Falls, with burial in Lisbon cemetery.
A Christian Science Monitor feature recounts Philip Jones Jr. operating a large Christmas tree farm in Shelton Connecticut. The venture includes 100 acres with 100000 trees plus 100000 more in nurseries, selling high priced trees on site or letting customers cut their own. People travel from White Plains New York to shop. The farm offers a Tree Farm Special train painted on a barn with loaded painted trees for amusement.
City Highway Department crews installed new parking meters on the east side of Front Street between City Hall and Broad Street. The pattern mirrors Elm Street's north side with two-space groups and five-foot no parking gaps, following the razing of the Ledyard block and street widening that added four spaces and extra pull-in room. City Council approved the plan a month ago.
Continued from page one Sury seeks federal participation. Batstone’s visit will be followed by a public meeting next Monday in city hall auditorium. After the meeting the City Council is expected to decide on holding a public referendum to gauge Bath voters support for forming an urban renewal authority.
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Jane Cummings 66 widow of John W. Cummings were held at St Marys Roman Catholic church. Born in Brunswick July 15 1893 she lived in Bath many years and served Bath Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and Sacred Heart Circle. Surviving: three sons John W Robert F and Edward J all of Bath and daughter Mrs Rita Stanton Cambridge Mass plus a sister Mrs Alice Fessenden Boston and four grandchildren. Bearers Harold Perry James Voorhees Joseph Desmond Andrew Flaherty. Interment in Oak Grove family lot.
Peggy Anne Reno 19 month old daughter of Lawrence A and Diane Morris Reno of West Bath died Tuesday at Bath Memorial Hospital after a two day stay. Born April 18 1958 she is survived by her parents a sister Cathy D Reno paternal grandparents Mr and Mrs Chester Swain of West Bath and maternal grandparents Mr and Mrs Herbert Merryfield of Bath. Funeral services will be Friday at 10 am from A F Mayo Son Funeral residence with Rev Martin V B Sargent of Winter Street Congregational Church officiating burial in the family lot.
John C Belanger funeral conducted at 8 30 a m Thursday by Rev Francis E Morrissey at St Marys Roman Catholic Church following a requiem high Mass. Bearers included Percy Scott Joseph Belanger Leon Belanger Bradford Belanger Fred Whitlam and Earl Tasker. Interment in Calvary Cemetery family lot.
Funeral services for Mrs Ar della J Morey were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Fred S Curtis Funeral Home with Rev Charles R Sims pastor emeritus First Baptist Church officiating. Bearers were Ernest Doughty Albert Doughty Willis Doughty and David Doughty. Burial planned in Oak Grove Lot.
Charles W. C. Sherman aged 54 of Damariscotta died suddenly Monday morning while reporting to work at the Bath Iron Works Hardings Fabrication plant where he had worked over ten years. He was born November 21, 1905 in Damariscotta to Charles F. and Lena Crocker Sherman. He attended Lincoln Academy and graduated from Kents Hill Seminary in 1924. He belonged to St Andrews Episcopal Church of Newcastle, served as vestryman, and was a member of the Twin Village Yacht club. Surviving are his widow Olive Stahl Sherman three sons Peter M. of North Scituate, Massachusetts Charles Scott and Robert, both of Damariscotta his mother of Damariscotta and one grandchild.
Albert T. Thompson aged 84 retired gatetender for Maine Central Railroad died Friday at Bath Memorial Hospital after four days as patient. Born September 9, 1875 in Cundy's Harbor, he was son of William and Lydia Thompson. Survived by two sons Royall A. and Burleigh J. of Bath, daughter Flora Cousins of Bath, seven grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He worked at the Texas Co shipyard during World War I and retired in 1948 after 26 years with the railroad.
Paul Alan Smith, 17 month old son of Mr and Mrs Franklin O Smith of East Brunswick, died at Bath Memorial hospital after a brief illness. Survived by two sisters Karen and Mona and brother O Franklin. Maternal grandparents Mr and Mrs A E Brown of Bath and Mr and Mrs Arthur Smith of Conway NH, plus several uncles, aunts and cousins. Interment in Conway. Neer Funeral service held Sunday at White's funeral home in Conway.
Mrs. Della Jane Morey age 81 lifelong Parker Head resident of Phippsburg died Sunday in Augusta. Born 1878 to Joseph A. and Mary Rooke Young she attended Phippsburg schools. She is survived by brother Joseph Young of Bath and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Tuesday at 2 pm from Curtis Funeral Home burial in Oak Grove.
Funeral services for Albert T. Thompson were held at 1 30 p.m. Monday at the Arthur F Mayo and Son Funeral Residence with Rev Dr David L Wilson officiating. Bearers included Bert Cousins Stuart Cousins George Cousins and Albert Gran. Thompson a retired Maine Central Railroad gatetender died Friday evening at Bath Memorial Hospital. Surviving are his widow Maude M Thompson two sons Royall A and Burleigh J one daughter Mrs Flora Cousins all of Bath.
