Edwin H. Pert of Bath says he will give thoughtful consideration to a Kennebec County request that he reconsider resigning as executive secretary of the Maine Democratic State Committee. His resignation, submitted in October, takes effect December 31, with no clear successor in sight. Many doubt the reasons are strong enough to compel action, yet pleas for his stay persist through December.
The nomination of Mrs. Alice Nolan to the Bath Board of Registration by the Democratic City Committee on Tuesday evening appears nearly certain to be confirmed at the next City Council meeting. Democrats hold a long sought majority on the Bath Board, following Harry W. Thebeau’s Democrat chairmanship appointment by Governor Clauson. The vacancy needed a Democrat to keep the board’s one Democrat one Republican balance, a move aided by Republican support for Nolan.

Five Islands wakes to a Sunday snowstorm delaying travel and canceling morning worship at Second Baptist. Evening service moved to Edith Marr home as hunters report several does. Thanksgiving gatherings fill the town with family, meals, and local visits across Bath Yarmouth and surrounding communities.
Cold winds and high surf marked several days last week while Thanksgiving was sunny and above normal. Sunday brought four inches of snow and slush causing slick roads and several cars to leave the road. Bay Point residents welcomed new property owners Mr. Hacking and family who bought the Birchwood estate. Thanksgiving guests included Mr. and Mrs. William Adams and Miss Louisa Howard at New Meadows Inn in West Bath.
A new four cent stamp honoring Dr Ephraim McDowell will be released with first day sales in Danville Kentucky on December 3 and Bath on December 4. Designed by Charles R Chickering the maroon vertical stamp measures .84 by .98 inches and is printed on Cotrell press in sheets of 70 with an initial print run of 120 million. Collectors may request first day covers by sending envelopes to the Danville Postmaster with proper addressing and a four cent stamp. envelopes should be ordinary letter size and the flap sealed and endorsed First Day Covers 4-cent McDowell Stamp.
The Grace Episcopal church held an Evensong service at Grace Church to dedicate a stained glass window depicting King David in memory of Warren F. Hawley Jr. The Rev. Richard B. Adams preached the sermon and offered dedicatory prayers. Charles M. Tubbs read the lessons. George Field sang. Milton W. Swift was organist. Hawley died Sept 1 1958 and was longtime Grace church choir member.
Former Bath man Nichols of Eastport joins a list with Frank G. Chapman of Hallowell and Maine Development Commissioner Lloyd K. Allen. The Rev Ernest Heywood of Calais, Jean Gannett Williams of Portland, Paul J. Julian of Waterville, Faust Couture of Lewiston, George Bearce of Bucksport, Rep Lucia Cormier of Rumford, J. W. Page of Caribou, Edward Cyr of Madawaska, and Benjamin Dorsky of Bangor are named. Rev Heywood, former Bath resident, served as Wesley Methodist pastor for nearly ten years and left Bath about fifteen years ago.
A second meeting is set after Christmas. Attending the first session were Hutchins Councilor James W Temple William Turpie from the original charter revision committee and City Manager Stanley W Judkins. Mrs DeAngelis Funeral Services for Mildred DeAngelis were held Tuesday at Wesley Methodist Church with Reverend Oliver W Bell officiating. Interment followed at Oak Grove and plans noted for spring at Owls Head.
Funeral services were held for Mrs. Margaret T. King at Curtis Funeral Home with Francis J Morrissey officiating. Bearers were Victor Chouquette Ralph Brewer Alphonse Turcotte Maurice Upham Daniel Holt and Edward Gaudet Interment followed in the family lot at Oak Grove Leon Eaton accompanied by Mrs Eaton and visiting Mr and Mrs Martin Eaton at Sebasco Estates and Miss Emily Wyman at Small Point
John Charles Belanger 67 of 68 Richardson street Bath died Monday after a brief illness. A Bath barber for 25 years he served in World War I with Co K 303rd Infantry 76th Division. Survived by widow Elva Black Belanger three sons two daughters two sisters and ten grandchildren. Funeral Thursday 9 am from St Marys church with burial in Calvary cemetery. Rosary Wednesday 8 pm at A F Mayo Son Funeral Residence.
Carroll S. Hunt, 53, of 590 Middle Street, died Friday evening after a monthlong illness. Born December 18, 1905 in Holbrook, Mass, he was a son of Walter and Amy Hunt. Survived by widow Thelma Harding Hunt, Belfast parents, three sons Walter in the U S Navy Air Force Key West Fla, Robert and Alan Bath. one brother Norton Hunt Lyra US. He worked at Bath Iron Works during World War II and later as maintenance machinist at Congress Sportswear. He was a Troop 57 Boy Scout committeeman and a member of Beacon Street United Methodist Church.
Funeral services for Arthur H. Deehan were conducted at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Funeral Home of Leslie C. Shumway followed by a funeral mass at St. Mary's Roman Catholic church. The Rev. John E. Belle fontaine officiated. Bearers were Marshall Boudreau Frederick Boudreau Paul Boudreau and Joseph Wilson. Interment will be at Oak Grove.
Funeral service for Carroll S Hunt conducted Tuesday at 1 30 p m from A F Mayo and Son funeral residence with Rev Frederick L Niles of Beacon Street Methodist Church officiating. Bearers included Kurt Diamant Wendall Towns Sherman Mitchell Carlton Pye Fernand Dumais and Harvey Rowe. Burial in family lot at Oak Grove.
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Cressey and their son Robert Jr of Charles street have returned home after spending the holiday weekend in Boston.
Arthur H. Deehan a lifelong Bath resident died Thursday afternoon at his home on Rose Street after several months of illness. Born May 29 1902 he worked at Hyde Windlass Sea Roebuck Bath Iron Works and Kennebec Greer Homes. He was a Catholic and former Knights of Columbus and West Bath Grange member. Survived by widow a daughter in El Paso Texas a sister two nephews and a niece and two grandchildren.
Mrs Margaret Theresa King 70 wife of Frank A King of 3 Oliver Street died November 26 at Bath Memorial Hospital Born in Quincy Massachusetts March 29 1889 a daughter of Archibald J and Josephine DeLan McNeill She lived in Bath for 50 years previously Weymouth Mass Surviving husband two daughters Mrs Parker Saxton New London Conn and Mrs Richard J Carver Bath a son James W King York two sisters Mrs R B Good New London and Miss Catherine McNeill West Baldwin two brothers James McNeill Kingston and John W McNeill East Baldwin many grandchildren great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Mrs Mildred B DeAngelis 68 of Bath died Sunday morning at Bath Memorial Hospital after a long illness. A Bath resident for 20 years she previously lived in Boston and was born in Rockport Sept 13 1891. She was a daughter of Edgar and Ida Kent Adkins and attended Rockland schools before moving to Massachusetts. She came to Bath in 1939 and was a member of Wesley Methodist church. Her survivors are two aunts and several cousins.
Funeral service for Mrs Winnefried Bell Lewis conducted Friday at 10 at her residence. The Rev Robert L Fowler of the First Church of the Nazarene officiated with bearers Perley Colby Milton Brann Ernest Washburn and Henry Schmidt Jr present.
