William S. Newell president of Bath Iron Works told Portland Kiwanis Club one destroyer is in the water six more under construction for the U S Navy. The yard has delivered two destroyers this year the Sampson and the Davis a third will be delivered. The firm has paid about 16 million in wages over ten years. about 3 million is expected this year. Building a single vessel takes about 33 months.

Preparedness Day Planned for Bath Fleet Marine Aviation Corps
Bath seeks 576 recruits for a proposed Fleet Marine Aviation Corps to be based at Riverside Armory on the old Kelley Spear Co. site. A parade at 3 p.m. on December 10, a banquet, and an 8:30 p.m. mass meeting at Morse High School are planned with Col. Hubert W. Eldred and Col. Frank E. Lowe backing the effort and notable attendees listed, including governors, senators, and naval officers.

Palmer field near Center and Allen streets purchased by Bath Box Co for a new housing development of at least 15 dwellings. The site runs north south between Center and Academy streets, about 400 by 500 feet, with easy access to the business district and courts. Thanksgiving Day Crash In Bath Ends With Driver Uninjured
Mrs. Ber nice C. Drake drove a Plymouth truck into the side of a Bath train at School street crossing on Thanksgiving evening. The truck struck the locomotive cab steps and baggage car, damaging the truck and building but she escaped with only a shaken body and a bruised ankle. Conductor Levi Perry and engineer Roy Haskell investigated with Officers Pennell and DeCapua.

Seniors Present Little Women At The Auditorium
The 1939 Morse High senior class staged Little Women in the auditorium on Wednesday evening drawing a full house. The cast impressed with solid portrayals and period costumes. Beth’s death scene featuring Jo Pauline McNeil and Beth Barbara Kenney stood out. Mary H. Conley and Margaret Mackinnon were thanked for coaching and orchestral direction, with thanks to Kennebec Greenhouses for flowers and lenders of costumes.
