Dutch Experts View Reclaimed Marsh Lands For Farming
Dr. Jan Byhouwer discussed Dutch and US land reclamation methods in marsh lands similar to reclaimed dunes. He noted five years of rainfall to leach salt after dikes are built, predicting fertile soil beyond coast gravel regions and acknowledging US program speed issues. He praised Holland’s cautious approach since 1780 and spoke with officials in Washington before two week return voyage. Holland Miss Evelyn Oliver and Betty Burkhardt and Barbara Allen were mentioned in related notes.
