Patchwork Quilts At Exposition In West Springfield
More than 600 quilts from across the United States and Canada are gathered at Hastern States Exposition grounds for the 16th annual Exposition. A national contest attracts entries of diverse ages from 10 to 81, with prizes to be announced. Judging focuses on workmanship, quilting, color and design as quilts showcase many patterns from New England to the far west.

Two weeks in the store room passed without plates. a sales team member first noticed the loss Saturday morning. Judge Orders Truck Returned to Owners
The Autocar truck seized with 365 cases of liquor aboard at The Willows on the Bath Brunswick road near Blind Crossing was returned to Colonial Transportation Co. of Atlantic Massachusetts after a municipal court hearing before Judge John J. Keegan. The company said a driver used the truck without its knowledge and filed a claim the next day. Sheriff Albert Henderson and State Highway Officer John P. Cloudburst Drenches Bath Causing Flooded Streets
A near cloudburst struck Bath at noon Thursday with heavy rain and vivid lightning. Sewers couldn't handle the volume and water backed up through toilets. Catch basins near Center Street and Winter Street bridge clogged, prompting emergency crews to clear debris. Washington Street and Walker Street Hill flooded with ruts six to twelve inches deep.

Seabasc o Fisherman in a Blazing Boat
Seabasco fisherman Henry Alexander and his two sons faced a blazing craft fifteen miles at sea on Sunday night when a five gallon gasoline can exploded in the cabin. The father in oilskins entered the flames to pull his younger son to safety while the older son attempted a rescue. The gasoline pipe melted and the crew threw overboard the tank and can, then bailed water to cool the vessel before rowing ashore.
