On August 12 Rev. Ovid Kinsolving led an amateur program for Five Islands Children’s Christmas Fund drawing over 100 residents. Acts included Randy Knowlton and Art Lane from Kalamazoo, acrobatic dance by Isabell Malony, accordion duet by Lane and Zimmer, a speech by James MacMamee, songs by the Dougall sisters, a banjo number, a Spanish dance by Rosita and Tito, and surprises by Joseph Hoffman and Dave Knapp with a Yale ballad and magic tricks.

Bath built Drayton on trial trip proves fastest craft
The U S S Drayton 1500 ton destroyer launched at Bath Iron Works March 26 proved the fastest naval vessel in the United States during official trials off Rockland. Navy officials kept figures confidential while praising the Bath yard for a record showing outstanding power and speed. The Drayton was named flagship of Destroyer Division 62 and is expected to be delivered to the Navy by September at the Boston yard.
