Absentee Ballots Going to Maine Communities Now
Absentee ballots for the November presidential election began going out from the secretary of state's department to towns and cities a week before the August 15 deadline. About 64,610 ballots were printed, with a similar amount sent last week for the state election. Instructions warned that state and presidential ballots must not share an envelope to avoid disqualification. Deputy Secretary Paul A. MacDonald noted expected heavy military voting and that some towns ran low on state ballots, possibly requiring extra prints. He reiterated that ballot requests are limited to the soldier or an adult close relative or guardian.
