Fire at First National Bank Club causes damage and scare
Fire of unknown origin broke out on the third floor of the Suffolk club in the First National Bank building at Front and Center streets. Water from responding engines flooded the club and leaked into the bank’s second floor, with smoke filling offices. The bank closed, valuables were secured, and the fire was nearly out within 40 minutes. Local officials aided, and damages were largely from smoke and water. A separate note highlights a ship figurehead in Marblehead and an early Maine market corn sale by a Yarmouth farmer netting about $30.
