Lee Hurd of Woolwich sustained a broken rib and scalp injuries Saturday morning when a hayrack pole struck him while he was running it. He is recovering as speedily as possible. The column also lists numerous local visits and social notes from Woolwich and surrounding towns.
Capt J F Skofield of Parker Road commands the U S Lake Strabo relief ship, home after 30 days from Revel Russia via England. He recalls Bolshevik atrocities witnessed at Revel, sees high prices in Hamburg, and brings back photographs and curios from Russia and other lands.
Rail labor advocates press for government or public ownership but warn higher freight rates and taxes to fund wages. John Andrews Thwing, 72, a prominent Woolwich resident, died after a two week illness at his home. Born Aug 22 1847, he lived his life in Woolwich, married Henrietta Lilly in 1870, and leaves three children and three grandchildren. A longtime church trustee and choir leader, he was devoted to farming and music. Funeral Friday at 2:30 p.m. at his Woolwich home. Also notes a federal tax ruling on dance event admissions and a note about Miss Leonora Knight traveling to Pittsfield for a week with friends.
The Boston Post reports industrialist Thomas G Plant, longtime Bath native, is creating an immense estate at Melvin Village near Lake Winnipesaukee. He plans an 18 hole golf course with a 100 room inn, 100 cottages, a flying field and hangar, 700 workers, and extensive roads and facilities making the hilltop castle a landmark.
A seven passenger auto from Massachusetts was wrecked Saturday afternoon near Bath after a truck head on collision during a passing maneuver. Mr Oliver, his wife and seven year old daughter Pearl, plus William Palmer, escaped injury as the Massachusetts car and a truck collided. the car’s rear end and engine were damaged while occupants sustained no serious harm.
Miss Elizabeth Cressey and Ralph G. Lewis both of Bath were married Sunday morning at 10 at the home of the officiating clergyman Rev. Clarence M. Fogg. The double ring service was used in the presence of immediate relatives and friends. The bride wore white with a white hat and carnations. The bride is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Winfield Cressey and the groom is the son of Mr and Mrs Lendall Lewis of Bath. They will live at 10 Pine Street.
