An audience packed Nequasset Congregational Church as Col. Dummer Sewall Chapter of the D A R unveiled a brass tablet marking the 1757 founding of the oldest Congregational Church east of the Kennebec River. D A R regents, local residents, and descendants attended with two young daughters unveiling the marker.

Ex Mayor Torrey dies after long public life in Bath
Hon Joseph Torrey 176 was Bath s longtime business leader and former mayor died Friday morning at 912 Middle Street after a gradual decline following a.brief winter illness. Born Oct 5 1859 in Richmond he led Torrey Roller Bushing Works to nationwide fame and expanded the plant fourfold serving major clients including General Electric Westinghouse and Bath Iron Works. He helped secure road improvements and enforced tax collections while a Democratic mayor in 1898 and remained civic minded until his later years.
